We keep talking about how the solution to much of the violence in our country is increased mental health resources…
Well. This young man sounds like he’s in DIRE need of mental health help.
According to Daily Mail:
The brother of the teen charged with killing 17 people at a Florida school was arrested Monday afternoon for trespassing at the same school.
Zachary Cruz, 18, was arrested at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and charged with trespassing on school grounds, a Broward Sheriff’s Office report said.
He is the brother of 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, who has been charged with 17 counts of first-degree murder in connection with the February 14 shooting.
He had been told to stay away from the school… but he said he went to ‘reflect on the school shooting and to soak it in.’
It’s all kind of tragic, if you ask me.
Zachary was recorded by security cameras riding his skateboard at the school around 4.30pm though he had received prior warnings from school officials to stay away from the campus, the report said.
He told the arresting deputy that he was there to ‘reflect on the school shooting and to soak it in’, according to the report.
It added that the teen had ‘surpassed all locked doors and gates and proceeded to ride his skateboard through school grounds’.
And no, this had never been his school.
Deputies said Zachary had no connection to Broward County. Before the shooting, he lived with family friends in Palm Beach County.
Zachary has had his fair share of trauma in his life…
Again. Why I feel that he is in desperate need of mental health counseling.
In September 2016, court documents show some officials recommended Nikolas be involuntarily committed for a mental evaluation, though the recommendation was never acted upon.
Such a commitment would have made it more difficult, if not impossible, for Cruz to have legally obtained a gun such as the AR-15 assault-style rifle used in the shooting.
Jail records didn’t immediately list an attorney for Zachary.
Zachary and Nikolas, who are half-siblings, were adopted when they were younger by Lynda and Robert Cruz.
Robert died in 2004 from a heart attack, and Lynda died in November from the flu.
Family friend Roxanne Deschamps took in Nikolas and Zachary after Lynda died, but kicked Nikolas out of her home following a violent altercation in November.
In a 911 call, Deschamps told police that Nikolas became angry when she took away his guns and hit her son in the face.
Nikolas fled the home and Deschamps told the dispatcher she was worried what would happen if Nikolas returned.
The 19-year-old also called 911 to report the incident apologizing to police saying that his mother had just died and he ‘was dealing with a bunch of things right now’.
Zachary still lives at Deschamps’ home.
It was also revealed that Lynda had called police 23 times over a 10-year period to report that Nikolas had been physical with Zachary and with her.
Yeah… it’s all heavy stuff.
