Spending all our time and energy on inanimate objects– that accomplishes NOTHING. That won’t stop school shootings. That won’t stop mass murderers from murdering innocent people. It will NOT keep innocent children safe.
I’m more than willing to have a civil discussion on REALISTIC and EFFECTIVE steps we can take to prevent these horrific tragedies. Let’s have that discussion.
Colion Noir hits the nail on the head.
He’s absolutely right. Think about it. Why don’t we treat public schools like other government buildings? Do courthouses, airports and stadiums just stick up “gun free zone” signs and that’s it? OF COURSE NOT. Metal detectors are commonplace, because everyone knows that a sign that says “PLEASE DO NOT” doesn’t actually deter evil people from committing evil deeds. And guess what? Metal detectors aren’t the only safeguards these places use. They have security teams. Armed guards. We hire armed guards to protect our most prized possessions, yet we stand around clueless and scream at the sky when something happens at a public school– where we keep our most prized possessions– our children. Why are we leaving them utterly defenseless? Why are we counting on a sign to protect them?
It’s time to be realistic. This is a realistic way to combat evil.
I love how Noir put it.
“You can’t out progress evil.”
