Talk about stepping in it BIG TIME.
According to this, AP reporter Gary Fineout was OMG SO OFFENDED that Florida State Senator George Gainer “urged a woman visitor in the gallery to ‘stand up and show everyone how pretty you are.'”
He’s now deleted his tweet (you’ll soon see why), but it read:
Florida state senator George Gainer just urged a woman visitor in the gallery to “stand up and show everyone how pretty you are.”

Fineout was clearly going for the “OMG this guy is a TOTAL SEXIST angle,” except he missed one crucial detail. Gainer was referring to his wife.
Clarifying that this statement was made to Mrs. Gainer, Senator Gainer’s wife of more than 20 years.

Doh!
After 23 years of marriage, my husband still takes notice.
I’m not offended.
Everyone likes to be complimented on their appearance. If they say they don’t, they’re lying.

Totally agree. Although some people are still offended.
I’m not sure that makes it ok. We need to move away from judging women based on their appearance. He could have just as easily complimented her on her intelligence or kindness.

He did. To be clear, the Senator was thanking his wife for 18 years of volunteer work with the group she brought to the Capitol today.

Again, we all need to move away from women’s looks.
— michele collins (@michele5411) February 7, 2018
So we can’t even call our significant others beautiful anymore? This is a new low

still creepy a f

It’s creepy to publicly acknowledge that your wife is beautiful? That’s CREEPY now? No wonder men are hesitant to even TALK to women anymore.
Better that it was his wife, however, let us know when he encourages a son, nephew, grandson, etc. to stand up and show everyone how handsome he is, while he is thanking them for their hard work.

Give me a break.
Anyway, Gaines followed up, but he didn’t apologize.
Spokeswoman for Senate President said Gainer was referring to his wife. Wasn’t clear at the time since the recognition on the Senate screen mentioned other folks. https://t.co/RJKpEz4U4c

It looks like he deleted that tweet too. I guess he just wants everyone to forget the entire thing happened.
People are desperate to find sexism in absolutely everything these days. It’s annoying.
