A judge for tonight’s Miss Universe pageant is coming under fire for what appears to be ANYTHING BUT “unbiased” and “impartial” social media usage.
Miss Universe just schooled one of the judges for tonight’s pageant … telling her it looks really bad that she’s only following Latina contestants on social media.
Pageant sources tell us Judge Lele Pons has been told it compromises the competition that she’s only following Miss Mexico, Miss Venezuela and Miss Colombia … making it appear they have an advantage.
We’re told the officials told Lele to unfollow them STAT.
Our sources say Lele fired back she doesn’t think she did anything wrong … she’s a Latina and that’s just who she follows.
Lele has just unfollowed the women.
I’ve never heard of this “Lele” person, so here’s what Wikipedia has to say about her:
Elenora “Lele” Pons Maronese (born June 25, 1996)[1] is a Venezuelan-American internet personality and actress, most known for her YouTube and Vine videos.
Lele is managed by John Shahidi of Shots Studios, the company that also produces her YouTube content.[2] She posts YouTube internet videos for her over 6 million subscribers.
In 2015, Time magazine included her in its list “The most influential teens”. In 2016, Time included her among the “30 Most Influential People on the Internet”.
In 2017, Forbes magazine included her in the part of its “30 under 30” list in the categories of entertainment, immigrants and youngest. Lele Pons ranks No. 8 in Forbes’ Top Influencers of 2017 in the entertainment industry.
Thrilling.
So do I CARE that she follows Miss Mexico, Miss Venezuela and Miss Colombia? No. Not really.
But I do understand why the Miss Universe organization would.
So what good does unfollowing do? We already know who she favors.
The easiest way to decide if something is technically “racist” is flip it… what if a “undeniably white” person did it? ( I say undeniably because Lele is a white hispanic and in this country that gets complicated. Read on before you come at me on this one.)
Would the libs FLIP OUT if a Miss Universe judge went out of her way to only follow “white” contestants.
HAHA. We both know the answer to that, don’t we?
Despite that…. I really, REALLY don’t care either way. So what if people want to follow people they relate to? So what? Somehow that’s only racist when white people do it… anything else is “celebrating culture” or whatever. I don’t care WHO does it. Do whatever you want.
About my previous comment.
Someone’s about to come at me for saying this was a display of “racism” because this is based on nationalities, not on race, since each of these countries has people of different races….Someone ALWAYS does.
GUESS WHAT, BUBBA. You’re not wrong. But you’re not right either. I myself am a “white hispanic” (much like this Lele Pons chick). I grew up in Mexico… I have a Mexican mom. My dad is a white American… so I’m white, right?
Not according to the USA.
Forms give the option of White (non hispanic) and Hispanic. SO GUESS WHICH ONE I AM. If I were to choose white, I’m automatically saying I’m NOT hispanic, which I am. I’m left with little choice…..
So I check off ‘Hispanic.” The same as aaaall the other Mexicans. So yeah, don’t try to school me, punk.
Interestingly, Mexico doesn’t include races in government forms, because legally we’re all supposed to be the same. There are no ‘legal’ races.. .we’re all just one continuum of “muttiness.”
