I know. This is Bill Maher, but he’s kinda making sense for once. You know what they say about broken clocks…
In a short segment on his show, he totally encompassed everything wrong with the Democratic Party: It doesn’t think things through. Take, for instance, the Hot Cars Act of 2017. Oh yeah. That’s A Thing. Al Franken’s behind it, if that gives you any kind of idea of how stupid it is. It basically requires that cars have a sensor to let you know if you’re leaving your kid in a hot car. Because apparently, THAT’LL SOLVE IT. Punish car manufacturers (and ALL consumers) for horrible parenting.
“Each summer, we hear heart-wrenching stories about children whose lives end far too early because they were accidentally trapped in the back seat of a hot car. We can do something to prevent these terrible tragedies, and that’s why I’ve helped introduce commonsense legislation that would make sure there are measures in place to alert you if your child is left in the back seat. I want to see this life-saving technology become the standard in our cars,” Franken said.
Bill Maher had some things to say about that. It’s ridiculously common sense.
“The cost of which will be passed onto the consumer,” Maher stated. “And should reminding you not to forget your baby really be Toyota’s problem?”
His leftiness (I know that’s not a word, but we’re going with it) shows through this rant (like talking about global warming and guns), but focus on his greater point. Stupid crap like hot car sensors– THAT’S what ticks people off.

Maher added when it comes to preventing child deaths, we’re never going to get that number to zero, even if we wrap every kid in bubble wrap. Where he starts to veer into his typical HBO Real Time-self is when he says that this all feeds into the GOP talking points about Democrats, regulation, government, and freedom. He made quips about how we’re all pretty much in a hot car right now: it’s called Earth. He wants Democrats to do big stuff on regulation, like with the environment and firearms, but the Democrats go-to on regulation, like with this little stuff about hot cars, is how we get Scott Pruitt to head the EPA. Now, of course, I, and the rest of the right-leaning America, have zero problems with Mr. Pruitt, but Maher nails it: this busy bodying, hyper-progressive crap is how we got Donald Trump.
“It makes people hate us. It makes me hate us,” Maher said. “It’s these sort of antics that allows conservatives to own freedom as an issue.”
HECK YEAH. FREEDOM. *waves flag*
“People want to drain the swamp, not ban Big Gulps,” Maher continued. “Yes, I understand you [Mr. or Mrs. Progressive] have 1,000 good ideas on how I should live my life, reject my privilege, and sort my recycling. And we’ll get to that, but first we need to get some Democrats elected and that’s hard when the movement to childproof the world had made Republicans the party of freedom and Democrats the party of poopers.”
They totally are the party of poopers.
