Dana Perino recently dropped an interesting theory on the White House shakeup: It’s all a carefully orchestrated effort to get Attorney General Sessions to move over to the Department of Homeland Security.
“I’m gonna go out and say this: I think that this was all set-up for a few weeks because the president has been so upset about Jeff Sessions and his recusal in the Russia investigation that the Republicans and conservatives that came to Jeff Sessions’ defense this week all said, ‘But he’s doing the best on the issue we care about the most and that is immigration,’” Perino said.
“Well, where can Jeff Sessions do even more on immigration? As the Secretary of Homeland Security,” she added. “So I think what they’re going to try to do is move Sessions over to DHS, and then how can conservatives complain?”
This builds on that theory. You see, everyone was blindsided by Anthony Scaramucci’s sudden departure, but there’s talk that Scaramucci went into this knowing his position would be brief. He had one job and one job only: Get rid of Reince Priebus.
It was soon clear that Mr. Scaramucci would not be a fixture of the administration, but a transitory figure who created an opportunity for Mr. Trump, with his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, to undertake the far-reaching shake-up intended to purge the White House staff of leakers and aides viewed as not sufficiently loyal to his cause.
Mr. Spicer quit the day Mr. Scaramucci was hired; Mr. Priebus left shortly after the rant in which Mr. Scaramucci accused him of undermining the president through leaks of information to reporters.
In other words, Trump wanted Scaramucci to come in, do the dirty work and get out. All the while, Trump’s hands would remain clean. I mean, Trump had to know Kelly would get rid of a personality like Scaramucci, right? It’s a pretty interesting theory– one I’m inclined to consider.
Axios reports that Jared and Ivanka actually pushed for Trump to bring Scaramucci in, specifically to oust Priebus. Yet, they were both horrified by Scaramucci’s outburst with a reporter and then wanted him gone. With Kelly as the new boss man, that happened.
If that entire thing was orchestrated, it’s kind of genius. But even if it wasn’t planned, that’s precisely what happened.
