Have you heard of the “Human Ken Doll,” Rodrigo Alves? We’ve talked a little bit about him here. Basically, he’s a dude that is looking to be “perfect.” As in, he wants to look just like a Ken doll. He’s had a gazillion plastic surgery operations in order to look like a plastic toy that’s an unrealistic image of human beauty to begin with.
The guy looks BEYOND freaky. I have no idea how he can breathe, let alone speak or move –
Now there’s an update on his quest – and some sanity on the part of some doctors (FINALLY).
According to this, Alves went to India to find doctors who would perform a surgery on him permanently alter his eye color (um… does he not know that colored contacts are a thing?) And after all of the surgical operations that he’s had done and all the doctors who fed into his insanity, Indian doctors told him point-blank that they would NOT do what he wanted them to do. They told him that his eyes were too small for the fake iris and the surgery would likely do permanent damage to his eyesight.
Alves was pretty upset about the whole thing – to the point where he was CRYING about his disappointment. Dude is that upset about being told an unnecessary cosmetic procedure is too dangerous to perform? I’d hate to see how he’d react to hearing a doctor tell him he has some kind of inoperable cancer and the surgery that would save his life is impossible to do. –
But Brazilian-born Rodrigo, from London, was forced to return the nearly 5,000 miles home after surgeons said his eyeballs were too small to hold the artificial iris.
Tearful Rodrigo landed back in the UK on Monday after drowning his sorrows with champagne on the first class flight home.He said: ‘The doctors said my eye chamber is too shallow. I’m very upset and I have been crying a lot.
‘It is frustrating because I was really looking forward to it, but I appreciate the doctors have to take safety very seriously.
Okay, he actually sounds a little bit reasonable about the situation. Safety first, and all that. But then it’s his next statement that had me going “WTH, DUDE???”
‘If I go on a date with someone and it eventually developed into more, the person will expect me to wake up in the morning with blue or light eyes – but not brown.
‘I suppose it’s just one of those things.’
So… wait… he thinks anyone he dates will be mad at him if it turns out he actually has brown eyes instead of ice blue or violet or whatever exotic eye color Ken dolls have? (What is Ken’s eye color? Is there a set consensus on that even? And why am I asking this at all??) It’s not like he can’t connect with another person on a level that goes beyond how you look?
I just can’t get over how shallow all this is. I also can’t imagine someone being so committed to looking a certain way that he would mutilate his body to achieve it. It’s all so freakish and weird – though I’m glad that I still feel that way. If I (or society as a whole) ever accepts this kind of lifestyle as some version of “the new normal,” then I KNOW we are forever doomed.
I’m disgusted by Alves, but I also feel sorry for him. What could have happened in his life that he thinks this is all a good idea? He probably ought to be spending all this money on therapy, rather than plastic surgery.
