6th Grader Faces Suspension Over His Haircut

Xavier Davis– a 6th grade student at Cedar Bayou Junior School in Baytown, Texas– is facing suspension for getting a haircut his teacher considers “disruptive to the educational process.”

“I was walking into class, and she saw my hair and said, ‘You can’t have two lines in your hair. Go to the office,'” Xavier said, according to Click 2 Houston.

Ready to see this ridiculously disruptive haircut?

That’s it. Two lines on the side of his head. That’s worthy of suspension.

Apparently, the school district only permits one line.

“Letters, symbols, and designs beyond a single straight line which draw attention to an individual shall not be permitted. The administrator/supervisor reserves the right to determine if a hairstyle is disruptive to the educational process.”

In response, his parents were forced to color in one of the lines using a Sharpie. Even weirder, Xavier’s parents said he had the haircut for the last six months, and the teacher JUST noticed it and JUST decided it was “disruptive.” To which I say, if it took you six months to realize he got a haircut, it’s probably not disruptive.

“I don’t know if having one line or two is a distraction to learning, it’s not a distraction to me,” his father Matt Davis said. “It’s nonsense. We send him here to get an education. We send him here to learn. It’s not about his haircut.”

I guess I could see it if Xavier came in with a ginormous rainbow colored afro or something, but this? No. This is a NORMAL HAIRCUT. I fail to see the issue.

I get that “rules are rules,” but it took them SIX MONTHS to realize he had two lines. Couldn’t they make an exception? It’s not a big deal.
