Playboy’s gonna have naked women again, y’all.
That whole “no nudes” thing lasted exactly one year, and now Playboy’s returning to its naked roots.
Apparently, the reason they stopped featuring naked women was to attract more advertisers and hopefully gain readership, but that’s been a big fat fail, so nakedness is making a comeback in the March/April issue, along with a cover headline that says, “NAKED IS NORMAL.”
Hugh Hefner’s son, who’s been in charge of the magazine since last fall, said on Twitter:
“I’ll be the first to admit the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake. Nudity was never the problem, because nudity isn’t a problem. Today, we’re taking our identity back and rediscovering who we are.”
Now, before you get too excited, you should know there’s not going to be full frontal. That amount of nudity apparently is still a problem, and is not part of the new identity or rediscovery of who Playboy is. You’ll get boobs and butts, but that’s it.
Do you think this will help or hurt Playboy’s sales? I’m guessing interest will be higher than normal in the March /April issue, and then sales will return to precisely where they were. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that with pictures of naked women being available pretty much instantly on the internet, there’s not much of an appeal to folks who don’t already read Playboy for the articles.
