It seems like the media is trying to latch onto any kind of motivation for Omar Mateen’s shooting rampage in Orlando – any motivation other than ISIS or Islamic terrorism, that is. You know – the very reason he gave in the 911 call, and the call to the Orlando TV station, and on Facebook. You see, if Mateen wasn’t actually doing this for ISIS, then the Left can go back to assuming that Americans as racist/sexist/homophobic bigots that deserve every bad thing that happens in this country. So let’s completely ignore the terrorism angle to this case and continue to claim we’ll never know his real motivations. That would be the politically correct thing to do.
According to this, a man known only as “Miguel” claiming to be Mateen’s gay lover was interviewed by Univision and said that Mateen’s actions had nothing to do with terrorism – that Mateen was just a very confused young man who had a difficult time finding his place within the gay community. The poor guy was even bullied and rejected by his Latino paramours. One even kept the fact that he was HIV-positive from Mateen, so obviously Mateen had no other choice but to shoot up a gay bar in Orlando –
Miguel described Mateen as a confused gay man and a heavy drinker who was attracted to – but felt rejected by – Latinos.
He believes Mateen’s massacre on Pulse nightclub’s Latin Night was an attempt at ‘revenge’ after discovering that one of the two Puerto Rican gay men he’d had a threesome with was HIV-positive.
Speaking in fluent Spanish and broken English, Miguel said that despite tests coming up negative, Mateen feared not enough time had passed for an accurate result, and he wanted to ‘make them pay’.‘The thing that makes me want to tell the truth is that he didn’t do it for terrorism,’ Miguel told Univision’s Maria Elena Salinas. ‘In my opinion he did it for revenge.’
You can buy this pile of tripe if you like. And Mateen’s secret gay lifestyle may very well have played some role in his attack. But not to the extent that the Left probably wants it to. The fact remains that Mateen made a point to pledge allegiance to ISIS in the middle of carrying out his attack. He broadcasted that to as many outlets as he could in the time he had. ISIS has praised Mateen’s actions and they’re planning to use the Orlando attacks in their propaganda, if they haven’t already started.
Pretending that this wasn’t Islamic terrorism doesn’t change the fact that is was Islamic terrorism. Any other reasons the media unearths are secondary details meant to distract from the task at hand.
