Comedian Louis CK Has Thoughts On Trump As President.

Hear me out on this one (except I know Trump supporters are already rushing to their keyboards to call me all kinds of vulgar names, ’cause that’s what their king does. Forget disagreeing on substance. So, you know – follow the leader, and all that…)

Over the weekend, comedian Louis CK sent out an email promoting his upcoming web series “Horace and Pete.” But it’s the PS that he put in the email that’s making news. Here’s what it says – and I will throw my thoughts in on it afterward (Language Warning for anyone who needs it) –

I know everyone’s rushing to scream “OMG HE COMPARED TRUMP TO HITLER – HOW DARE HE!!” And, yes, I usually scoff and roll my eyes when someone throws out the Hitler comparison on anybody. It’s like yelling that someone’s racist/sexist/homophobic/bigoted – it just shuts down argument and it’s lost all meaning.

But context matters (and arguably, the same could be said of Glenn Beck showing George Snuffleupagus a German ballot from 1929 electing Adolf Hitler – man, when Glenn Beck and Louis CK are on a similar wavelength…) Here, Louis is saying – Look at history. Hitler didn’t start out saying he was going to kill all the Jews and Germany wasn’t voting for that. At the time, Adolf Hitler was this goofy guy with a silly mustache who started saying things that sounded great to people who were fed up with the way their government was treating them. He – pardon the expression – “Told It Like It Was” and people responded to that. They elected personality, not principles. They elected an act. And look what happened.

Now, I’m certainly not suggesting that voting for Donald Trump is going to bring about another Holocaust. But the rhetoric is similar. It’s uncanny. And just a liiiiiiiiittle freaky.

Also – what’s interesting to me about Louis CK’s email is that he straight-up says that he’s not a conservative, but that he is imploring Republicans to put up their best candidate against Hillary Clinton. His thought is that if Hillary’s going to win, he’d rather she win in a fair fight (and we can talk about Clinton corruption another time). Donald Trump is not the best we have. Not even close.

And here I’m thinking – if you’re a liberal Democrat and you just think Donald Trump is a clownish buffoon that Hillary Clinton will mop the floor with, shouldn’t you be happy that he’s the frontrunner?

Yes, I can hear the StormTrumpers yelling – “They’re just scared of Trump ’cause he’s gonna win! That’s why they don’t want him elected!” If that were the case, would the likes of Louis CK be devoting paragraphs upon paragraphs of genuine concern for the country, and not just his party? Would John Oliver spend all that time bringing up everything he did in his video about Trump? Would my liberal friends (and just as many conservatives) on my Facebook feed be encouraging me to continue to speak out against Trump on this platform I’ve been blessed with? I mean – this is stuff that should be happening in the GENERAL ELECTION, not the primary. Most people don’t give a crap about the primary election.

The feeling I’m getting from conservatives and liberals and moderates alike is this: Trump will be a disaster for us all. Shelve party loyalty and partisanship – we can deal with that another day. Trump does not represent the majority of Americans. If you’re angry with government and the Republican Party and whatever else – there must be a better way to express it than electing Donald Trump.

And if – dear heaven, let this happen – Trump loses in the primary and Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio becomes the nominee, I will take great joy in reminding liberals that they asked us to run our best candidate.

Seriously (and this is just my opinion) – if we want a political outsider that would actually govern according to the Constitution and bring us back to our founding principles and truly make America great again, then Ted Cruz is the guy. He’s a Tea Party candidate. The establishment hates his freaking guts. He sticks to his principles. He’s proven he can’t be bought. He hasn’t compromised for one minute. He’s trying to make things work without burning everything to the ground. And he’s done it with all kinds of opposition from both Republicans and Democrats. If that’s not a political outsider, I don’t know what is.
