It’s times like these that I sit back and wonder when conservatives are going to wake up and smell the progressivism.
During an interview on “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, Donald Trump criticized Ted Cruz for asserting that he (Trump) supports big government healthcare.
He began his critique by calling Cruz a liar multiple times. Because of course.
“Look, Ted Cruz is a total liar. I am so against Obamacare. I’ve been saying it for two years in my speeches, I’m going to repeal and replace Obamacare. I don’t even know where he gets this,” Trump said.
Hm gee, I don’t know.

From there, Trump went off topic and talked about how many people have endorsed him and how nobody likes Cruz. Stephanopoulos stepped in and put the interview back on track.
“You say that Ted Cruz is a liar, but you have said that you want everyone to be covered on health care and the government is going to pay for it. How is that not Obamacare?” Stephanopoulos asked.
Trump’s response was unnerving.
“I want people takes — that’s true. I want people taken care of. I have a heart,” Trump said. “I want people taken care of. If people have no money, we have to help people. But that doesn’t mean single payer. It means we have to help people. If somebody has no money and they’re lying in the middle of the street and they’re dying, I’m going to take care of that person and try and get them back to health.”
“I have a heart.” Dude. Does Trump realize he sounds eerily similar to John Kasich?
We don’t sit around and watch people die in the middle of the street. That’s absurd. He completely made that up. (I know this sounds obvious, but if someone gets hit by bus, we don’t go, “Oh wait. We can’t revive this guy unless we can confirm that he has health insurance.”) We never turn anyone away, so don’t give me that crap. That’s a bogus left-wing tactic.
Trump wouldn’t say what he plans to replace Obamacare with. He just said he’d work “with our hospitals” and “work with our doctors.”
“We’ll work something out. That doesn’t mean single payer. And I mean, maybe he’s [Cruz] got no heart and if this means I lose an election, that’s fine, because, frankly, we have to take care of the people in our country,” Trump continued. “We can’t let them die on the sidewalks of New York or the sidewalks of Iowa or anywhere else.”
So basically, Cruz has no heart because he clearly has no problem with people dying on the sidewalks of New York and Iowa.
Good God, I know Trump’s a Republican, but I feel like we’re dealing with a Democrat here.
But back to the whole single-payer fiasco.
“[B]ut that’s not single payer and as far as Obamacare is concerned, one of the staples of my speech — and you can ask any of my many supporters — is repeal and replace Obamacare. It’s a disaster. The premiums are going up 25, 35, 45 percent, George,” Trump said. “I mean you take a look at what’s going on with — with Obamacare, it’s an outrage. It’s probably going to fail on its own unless the Republicans renew it, like they have been, in ’17.”
“But a whole staple of my campaign is repealing, getting rid of Obamacare and replacing it,” Trump added.
So there you have it. Trump hates Obamacare with his whole heart, but he doesn’t want people dying in the streets, unlike those evil schmucks Cruz and Megyn Kelly. (Let’s be honest. She probably wants people dying in the streets too.) Trump just wants to cover everyone with care, and he’ll totally talk to hospitals and work with doctors and everything.
He’s definitely going to replace Obamacare. We just don’t know what he plans to replace it with. But we do know he’s praised the idea of a single-payer system in the past. And everyone knows single-payer systems are the best ever.
