Guess How Many Illegal High-Capacity Magazines People Turned In To The LAPD?

Oh California. Even when you fail horribly, sometimes you actually win.

Some background – recently, the City of Los Angeles passed an ordinance banning “high capacity” magazines – that is, all magazines that can hold six rounds or more (the previous limit was ten). But rather than immediately make criminals of everyone who before had LEGALLY owned such magazines, they gave their citizens a sixty day grace period to turn them in to the police (how thoughtful of them).

Now, the sixty days are up. And according to AmmoLand, not a single high-capacity magazine was turned in. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nothing.

It’s pretty far-fetched to say that nobody in Los Angeles owns a high-capacity magazine and/or a weapon that uses one. It’s not like LA gangs shoot each other with Super Soakers, you know. And goodness knows that THEY’RE not about to waltz up to the police station and give up their ill-gotten guns and ammo just because the city council told them to (what, are you guys new here?) Again, all this gun control measure does is disarm people for whom the laws actually mean something. Except when the law is batcrap insane and people look at it and go “HA HA – no.”

The LAPD commander has backpedaled a bit and said that people can still turn in their high capacity magazine without fear of arrest (maybe he thinks they just forgot about it?) but if after sixty days nobody bothered to turn that stuff in, it’s unlikely that an unlimited grace period is going to do anything different.

You know a gun control measure is bad when even super-liberal Californians think you’re nuts.
