A Palestinian man stabbed four Israelis near the Lion’s Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem Saturday. Two of them died, and the remaining victims– a woman and a toddler– are “seriously injured.”
According to Police Spokeswoman Luba Samri, the enraged Palestinian took a gun from one of the victims and opened fire at police and tourists. An Israeli police officer stopped the massacre, fatally shooting the 19-year-old terrorist.
Not long after, Hamas– you know, that group Iran likes to give tens of millions of dollars to– released a statement, calling the suspect’s actions “heroic.”
This is just the latest in a string of attacks against Israeli citizens.
That’s what actually happened, but if you glanced at the headlines over at Al Jazeera or BBC, you likely saw a slightly different angle of the story.
That’s the equivalent of, “Mentally Ill Man Dead After School Shooting; 9 Others Killed Too.”
Isn’t that nice? They tell you where to direct your sympathies. They certainly can’t label the Palestinian as the aggressor! That would just be mean and insensitive!

Eventually, the sleazeballs over at Al Jazeera got the memo and changed the headline to “Two Israelis killed in stabbing attack; Palestinian suspect shot dead.” They admitted that the original headline appeared “to minimize the killings of the Israeli victims and leaves out the context that the Palestinian man was their attacker.”
Ya think?
But it didn’t end there. Other news outlets, like BBC, first resorted to the Never-Portray-Palestinian-Terrorists-In-A-Bad-Light-Angle. (Screen grabs from BBC Watch)–
That’s REALLY bad coming from that website. I mean, they’re the self-described “standard-setter for international journalism.” One of my past journalism professors– whose work in the field of journalism is as hard to find as Barack Obama’s college papers– constantly praised BBC. She said it was “the only place” she got her news.
Anyway, after pressure from social media, BBC changed the headline to this:
Well that’s specific. It’s basically the equivalent of “Some totally random guy killed two Jews. No biggie.”
So BBC changed it again:
“PALESTINIAN SHOT DEAD! (Also, he killed people first.)”
People continued to complain, so BBC tried again:
Getting there…
There we go! They finally spit it out! Boy, they REALLY didn’t want to say that a Palestinian started that mess.
But I should also note that neither of the news outlets– Al Jazeera and BBC– called this a “terrorist attack.”
Because journalism.
