This Guy Is A Hero: People Donating Money To UCC Shooting Victim

Army veteran Chris Mintz, 30, was injured after jumping to action during Thursday’s tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College. Witnesses say he tried to block the gunman (who I shall leave unnamed, because that piece of garbage doesn’t deserve the publicity) in an effort to save his fellow classmates. The gunman shot him, and as Mintz pleaded for mercy (he told the gunman it was his disabled son’s birthday), the loser shot him some more.

Mintz, originally from Randleman, North Carolina, served 10 years in the Army and had just recently started college, his aunt said.

‘I was told he went after the shooter,’ his cousin Derek Bourgeois told DailyMail.com.

‘There was no way he was going to stand around and watch something this horrific happen.’

Witnesses say he was more concerned for the well-being of others than himself.

“He ran to the library and pulled the alarms and he was telling people to run, grabbing people, telling them, ‘You just have to go,'” witness Hannah Miles said.

“He actually ran back towards the building where the shooting was and he ran back into the building and I don’t know what happened to him,” she added.

Thankfully, the bullets missed Mintz’s major organs. He was in surgery all day Thursday, and although he’s expected to recover, he’ll have to undergo more surgeries and completely learn to walk again.

Folks across the country were inspired by his act of courage and donated to his GoFundMe page. The donations have been pouring in like crazy, easily exceeding the original $10,000 goal. As of now, there’s over $716,000 in donations.

This guy is a hero, and I’m so glad people are focusing on his act of bravery and the people he saved.
