So much for that whole "champion of women" thing.
According to this, Hillary Clinton had planned a huge fundraising event where only women were invited to attend. The tickets were $2,700 a pop (sheesh) and event organizers hoped to have 125 women at this event (doing the math… that would come to $337,500 from one fundraiser). Problem is, by the time the deadline came around, only 50 tickets had been sold. So at the very last minute, they – GASP – opened the event up to men!
From the article –
The “Conversation With Hillary Clinton” event at Midtown law firm Akin Gump was originally aiming to attract 125 women. An email invitation seen by Page Six said the event is “just for women.” But by Friday, “They’d only sold 50 tickets, so they threw it open to men,” a source said. “Ticket sales were supposed to close at 10 a.m. Sunday, but the hostesses were working the phones and pushed the deadline till Monday.”We hear about 90 attendees included former Bill Clinton aide Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney and his husband, Randy Florke, Maurice Tempelsman, Jill Braufman (wife of hedge funder Daniel Nir), Jean Shafiroff and Susan Cole. The event began at noon, but Clinton arrived at 1 p.m. in “a royal blue jacket and black pants.” She then took pictures with donors and delivered a half-hour speech before leaving at about 2 p.m.
(Side-Note: Show up to deliver a half-hour speech and get over $300,000 for it? Yup. That's par for the course for the Clintons, all right.)
I'm waiting for someone to scream that Hillary's pandering to the patriarchy with this. Shouldn't this women-only event have been kept as a safe space where those EEEEEEEVIL mansplaining, manspreading, mantastic, manatees (crap, I'm running out of "man-" words) male privilege oppressors were shut away from Hillary's delicate female supporters? Forget about raising money for Queen Hillary's campaign – SAFE SPACES FOR WOMEN!
Or maybe this is because women really DON'T support Hillary and all this bleating about making history with the "First Woman President" isn't that big of a deal to women at all.
Regardless of the reason, let's just enjoy this moment where the foundation of Hillary's support didn't show up when she needed them. I think it's downright hilarious!
