It Is Now Sexist To Refer To God As “He.” This Is Why We’re Doomed.

My first question after reading this was "Has anyone asked God to see what He thinks about this?"

According to this, there is a group of female priests with the Church of England who want God to be referred to as a "She" just as much as a "He." Because, sexism. And there's NO WAY that a male deity could EVER relate to mortal women. EVER. From the article –

A group of women in the Church of England want to start referring to God as ‘She’ to combat sexism – with critics deriding the proposal as a case of political correctness gone mad.

 

Former Tory MP Ann Widdecombe, who left the Anglican Church following the decision to ordain women priests, called the proposal ‘plain silly’ and ‘the work of a few lunatics’.

 

But the women priests behind the idea argued that using ‘He’ suggests men are closer to God and called for the tables to be turned on sexism in the Church.

 

One of the supporters of the idea, the Rev Emma Percy, chaplain of Trinity College, Oxford, said the dominance of male language makes women feel that they are less holy.

 

The chaplain, who is also a member of Watch (Women and the Church), the pressure group that helped win the argument for female bishops in the Church of England, said using the word ‘She’ for God would be more inclusive.

 

‘When we use only male language for God we reinforce the idea that God is like a man and, in doing so, suggest that men are therefore more like God than women,’ she told The Sunday Times.

 

‘This means that women can see themselves as less holy and less able to represent Christ in the world. If we take seriously the idea that men and women are made in the image of God, both male and female language should be used.’

And this is where these interminable gender wars lead. Men can't understand women, women can't understand men. So if God is a man, therefore God can't understand women and women can't understand God. Never mind that God is the Supreme Creator of heaven and earth and all things that in them are and His greatest creations are His children – male and female – who He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die for so we could have a chance to live in heaven with Him. Basically, you're saying that the All-Powerful, All-Knowing, All-Seeing Being in the universe can't relate to a good half of His children because of boobs and a vagina. Which He gave them in the first place.

HOLY MOTHER OF WHACK, that is messed up!

Honestly – what does it matter what gender God is? Do you know what's important about my relationship with God? I know He loves me, I know He cares about me, I know that He sent Jesus to die for me. And because I refer to God as Heavenly Father (and, thus, a male) doesn't mean that He loves me any less or that I love Him any less. It doesn't change my belief in God or my worth in His eyes one tiny bit. And I have NEVER, not for one second, felt like I was a second-class citizen in God's kingdom because I'm female (I could get into deep doctrinal discussions of why that is, but a lot of that is personal and sacred to me. And this isn't the time or place for it).

Really, this is just another instance of trying to confuse the nature of God and lead to the total removal of Him from the public consciousness. Telling women that God can't relate to them because of perceived gender differences? Differences that actually don't matter to God because He's above such petty mortal squabbles? How does ANY of this make sense?

We are so doomed.
