As you’ve probably read, Mock and I kick off our radio show this Saturday from 4-6 EST on WIBC here in Indy. We’re completely stoked, nervous, excited, exhilarated, and everything in between. Over the past month, we’ve been learning things we never dreamed we’d be learning, such as how to transition in and out of traffic and weather segments (whaa?), where the cough button is (where?), and how to NOT comment on how awesome the buffer music is, because you will sound like a dork newbie (was that Motley Crue? OMG I LOVED TOMMY LEE).
We have a fab Producer – who I will refer to as “Producer M” – who is a talented, seasoned veteran in the business. We’re just thrilled that, when assigned to the Chicks, he didn’t run screaming for the hills. And we plan to learn SO much from him. We were also thrilled that before our first run-through last weekend, he sent us a question-and-answer sheet so he could get to know US better. How thoughtful was THAT, right? Being the chatty Chicks we are, we loved it so much that he gave two craps about who we are on a personal level, and after we sent our answers back to him, we thought to ourselves – “Selves? We should share this with our readers, as they may be interested in some of these answers as well.”
So that’s what this post is. Questions are compliments of Kickass Producer M. Answers are compliments of the Chicks.
Here we go.
Married? Kids?
Daisy: I’m married (5-year anniversary this month) with a three-year old daughter “Dandelion,” 19-year old stepson, and 23-year old stepdaughter.
Mock: Yes and yes! Married for 12 years to Mr. Mock, and mom to two boys: Junior Mock (16), and Mini Mock (7). Both were preemies (like, REALLY preemie), and Junior Mock is a quadriplegic.
2. What part of town do you live? Where did you grow up? Where did you go to school? – Director mentioned you both have Masters degrees, can you tell me what they are in?
Daisy: I live on the south side of Indianapolis, Indiana. I grew up in the South – Atlanta, Georgia. I’m an SEC girl, through and through. I went to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for undergrad school and then to Southern Polytechnic State University for my Masters in Communications.
Mock: Live on the north side – so I suppose we’re officially supposed to be snobs now. 🙂 First part of childhood was spent in Lawrence, Kansas, and then went to middle and high school in northern Indiana (Elkhart). Went to college at the University of Kansas. Director over-sold me – I do not have a master’s – just a plain ole regular BA in Psychology. Daisy’s the one with the extra smarts.
3. What sports are you most interested in playing? Watching/following?
Daisy: Playing – I was very athletic growing up (tennis, soccer, cheerleading, taught aerobics throughout my 20s, etc.), and I used to run marathons and did all that crazy workout stuff, but I gave all that glory up to be a city-turned-country chick. My fitness now mostly involves being outside in good weather…throwing a ball to my two Great Danes and boxer and literally watching out for and cleaning up after several handfuls of humans, three dogs, six chickens, and whatever other wildlife we have in our house on any given day. As for watching-and-following? I’m an SEC girl, so FOOTBALL, baby. FOOTBALL. I bleed orange and white come August, and that blood doesn’t run red again until after the New Year. Everything else is child’s play.
Mock: I’m not particularly athletic, but I Zumba 3x a week. Used to be a huge Indycar fan when Mr. Mock was intimately involved with the sport (he worked for XXXXX for 13 years and retired from racing at the end of 2011) – now that he’s out, I have lost interest. I am a college football fan by marriage (UGA, specifically).
4. Do you have opinions on alcohol consumption?
Daisy: Cold beer on a hot summer day or vodka on the rocks with a lime in the winter time. That’s an opinion, right? 😉
Mock: I do! My opinion is that it’s awesome, and I like to enjoy consuming it as often as possible. Seriously – I’m a glass-of-wine-every-dinner sort of gal, and enjoy drinking socially when I have time to, you know, be social. Fun fact: I have never had a hangover in my entire life, despite drinking heavily enough to have several. I’m guessing it’s got something to do with my Polish blood.
5. What kinds of music do you like (artists, songs, eras)? When was the last time you went to a concert? Who was it?
Daisy: I am a rock and roll girl with a classically-trained pianist living inside of me (she doesn’t get out much these days). I actually played classical piano from the age of 4 to 18, was going to go to the University of Georgia to pursue the full-ride piano avenue in life, but turned that down to choose the lucrative option of writing-for-the-man instead. GLAMOUR. The Foo Fighters are my favorite band, and you’ll find Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Van Halen, and some old southern standbys like Lynyrd Skynyrd and CSN in my car, but I also have been known to listen to whatever the kids are listening to, because I’m down like that. Yes, I have a KidzBop CD in my SUV. And it has something that sounds like Bieber on it. God help me.
Mock: VERY eclectic musical taste. Everything from Pitbull to classical and anything in between. I’m pretty sure I’m America’s only known Robbie Williams fan, and am hoping to go to his concert in Germany this summer (he doesn’t tour in the states, what with me being the only fan he has here and whatnot.) I do NOT like country music, unless it’s old Johnny Cash/Willie Nelson style country music. That might disqualify me to be a conservative, but it is what it is. Last concert I went to was BB King, and I’ve got tickets to see Colin Hay this September.
6. Movies, books, authors, TV, etc?
Daisy: Anything by Kurt Vonnegut. I loved that man because of, and in spite of, his grouchy, bitter, atheist disposition. I went through my Ann Sexton/Sylvia Plath poetry phase, but now I just read a lot of the Llama Llama Red Pajama series, which I highly recommend. Movies? Shawshank, Forrest Gump, Goodfellas, Almost Famous, Diehard and Signs. Top faves. I don’t really watch TV – no time for that. And if I do watch it, it’s either Nick Jr. or the Military Channel, as I haven’t had control of the remote in my house since 2008. See Question 1.
Mock: All time favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption because there is NO MORE SATISFYING MOVIE ON THE PLANET. Forrest Gump comes in at a close 2nd, but beyond that I have a zillion others. I am a sucker for movies that make me ugly-cry. Oddly, “Powder” is one of those movies, and that right there is probably enough to make you question whether or not you want to be associated with me. Jodi Picoult is my favorite fiction author. I don’t really watch TV anymore, except for the occasional freakshow (Hoarders, Strange Addictions, etc.)
7. What are some of your favorite foods/restaurants?
Daisy: I’m a meat and potatoes girl. But especially a meat girl. Give me a huge piece of cooked cow, and I’ll be your friend for life. Or McDonald’s French fries. Those are like crack, and I am their whore.
Mock: Ocean Prime at Keystone Crossing is my new favorite, with St Elmo’s being a close 2nd. I also love Hacienda, which you can only get in Kokomo or Elkhart/South Bend, and my husband will drive me up there to get my fix once every few months. I’ll eat most stuff, but I avoid health food, because eeeew.
8. On a scale of one to ten, with one being you never curse and ten being you curse like a sailor, where would you put yourself?
Daisy: As my husband would say, “Daisy curses like a sailor who’s been on several world tours.” I’m a good girl. I believe in God and heaven above and everything. I just have a filthy mouth. I’m beautifully flawed that way. I know this. Poor Mock. Seriously. The girl’s ears probably hurt on a daily basis. HURT.
Mock: I’m probably about a 5. Daisy and my husband would probably tie in a cursing contest, and then they’d probably curse at each other until there was a clear winner. PS. They grew up together in Atlanta, GA – weird side story we can tell you in person.
9. On a scale of one to ten, with one being you don’t drive over the speed limit and ten being you like to skydive on the weekends, where would you rate your sense of adventure?
Daisy: I’ll try just about everything once with the exception of anything having to do with heights, recreational drugs (minus the beer and vodka, of course), or the Kardashians.
Mock: I’m totally not a risk taker, but I do speed and I tailgate. BAD. Wouldn’t skydive or do anything heights-related, but I could be coaxed into SOME stuff. Ziplining in Eagle Creek was MAJOR ADVENTURE for me.
10. What kinds of vacations are your favorites? Do you prefer to fly or drive? Do either of you ride motorcycles?
Daisy: I like beach vacations, where little to no effort is required. I prefer driving, even though I’m one of the most impatient people on the planet. That’s the onion that is me – and why I’ve had lots of speeding tickets, I guess. Road trips are just so much FUN. Beef jerky and a 48 oz. Diet Coke from a convenience store in the middle of nowhere just makes me smile. Suck it, Mayor Bloomberg. AMERICA.
Mock: Anything with sand and sun and absolutely no agenda is an ideal vacation. Flying preferred because I just wanna GET there. I don’t ride motorcycles but Mr. Mock has an awesome little sportscar (targa!) and I love going on rides in that.
And there you go, clever and competent readers. A further peel-back of the onion that is the Chicks. You’re welcome. Or I’m sorry, whichever the case may be.
🙂
