Every First Lady has her “thing,” and Melania has hers– “Be Best.” It’s a campaign to combat cyberbullying, which I feel is infinitely better than telling kids to eat turnip.
Melania spoke at the Federal Partners on Bullying Prevention summit in Rockville, Maryland Monday and laid it all out there.
“[Social media] can be used in many positive ways, but can also be destructive and harmful when used incorrectly”: First lady Melania Trump addresses cyber bullying and raising socially-responsible children. https://t.co/ILDfC8O7QK pic.twitter.com/5owX8luh2g

“In today’s global society, social media is integral part of our children’s daily lives,” FLOTUS said. “‘Be Best’ chooses to focus on the importance of teaching our next generation how to conduct themselves safely and in a positive manner in an online setting.”
“Most children are more aware of the pitfalls and benefits of social media than adults,” she continued. “Our children deserve all the opportunity to give them to grow up happy, healthy, socially responsible adults.”
Melania’s initiative has been met with loads of criticism, because she’s married to the social media troll master. (Although I would argue that “trolling” is NOT always the same as cyberbullying.)
Dear First Lady Melania Trump,
I’d like to report a case of online bullying from this morning. See above. #BeBest

My husband is an arsonist who keeps burning down everything in sight but we really need to set a better example so kids stop playing with fire. That’s what we hear when Melania Trump talks about cyberbullying.

Melania’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, told reporters that FLOTUS was “well aware of the criticism,” but she’s going to continue to speak out, because she’s passionate about this issue.
“But that will not deter her from doing what she feels is right,” Grisham said. “I would hope most people in this country are proud that they have a strong and independent First Lady who only has the best interests of children at heart – I know I am.”
I mean, same.
