We’re just seeing reports of some sort of shootout in France. According to Daily Express, hooded gunmen opened fire in Marseille. They were armed with automatic weapons, which is a wonder because those are basically illegal.
Mhm.
The men opened fire on a group of young people not far from the cultural space known as ‘La Busserine’, local media Corse-Matin reports.
Three vehicles with the masked individuals arrived in the city’s district of Busserine at 5pm local time, France’s ACTU17 said.
Police exchanged fire with the shooters and officers have set up a cordon.
At this time it is unclear if any arrests have been made, but police are investigating.
Marseille’s Marines-Pompiers, the city’s fire and rescue service, is also at the scene.
One man is said to be ‘slightly injured’ after the assault, which began at about 5pm and which included the use of handguns.
The gunmen began firing at a crowd of young people outside the city’s cultural centre.
There was then a shoot-out with police before the attackers fled.
According to France Bleu, some of the gunmen were seen travelling in a Renault Megane.
The police reportedly fired at the car and hit one of its windows but it escaped.
There were no serious injuries, but one man was treated for a wound to his head.
