Cornell University Senior Gives Thesis Presentation In Her Underwear Because Feminism Or Something

I was president of my sorority for two years. I’ve had the “No. This does not by any means constitute a ‘business professional’ outfit” conversation more times than I can count.

I’ll come out and say it: The “youth” these days doesn’t know how to dress. Women especially. I’m blaming it squarely on third-wave feminism. You know, since “NO ONE CAN TELL ME NUTHIN I DO WHAT I WANT AND I WANNA LOOK LIKE A SLORE” seems to be the motto.

It comes down to this: Looking “sexy” or ultra-casual when you’re in a business setting doesn’t make you look “empowered.” It makes you look freaking clueless.

I also had a few super “feminist” interns in my day who thought exposed bras and midriffs were office appropriate. You know. Because it’s not THEIR responsibility to keep the “patriarchy” from looking at them.

NEWS FLASH: you look like trash.

Anyway, a Cornell professor told her student her intended presentation outfit wasn’t appropriate.

The student threw a little tantrum and took all of her clothing off.

Of course.

According to Daily Mail:

A senior at Cornell University has stripped down to her underwear to present her thesis in a bid to fight ‘oppressive beliefs’ after claiming her professor questioned the shorts she was wearing.

OMGGGG SO BRAVE, WOW.

Letitia Chai removed her clothes in front of teachers and students on Saturday during her honor thesis presentation at the Ivy League school.

It was a demonstration against her Acting in Public professor Rebekah Maggor, who Chai claims told her earlier in the week that her shorts were too short during a trial run of her presentation.

YEAH. Because denim cut-offs aren’t professional. She’s actually entirely right.

Chai penned a Facebook post following the incident last Wednesday, saying she was wearing a blue button down and cutoff jean shorts when her professor questioned her clothing.

‘The first thing that the professor said to me was “is that really what you would wear?”‘ Chai said.

Again… I would have been a little more aggressive.

Try: “There’s no way in HELL you’re thinking of wearing that, right?”

‘She, a white woman, continued: “Your shorts are too short”.

‘The professor proceeded to tell me, in front of my whole class, that I was inviting the male gaze away from the content of my presentation and onto my body.

I’m sure she used those eeeeexact words.

‘She said I was making a statement by wearing my outfit. I told her that I sure as hell wouldn’t change my statement to make her or anyone else feel more comfortable.’

Statement: “I have no effing clue what I’m doing here.”

Chai said a male international student in the class then agreed with the professor and she decided to leave the room.

She said her professor later came out of the room and asked her what her mother would think of her clothing.

Chai said she responded: ‘My mom is a feminist, gender and sexuality studies professor. She’s fine with my shorts.’

OOOMG CHAI IS SUCH A BRAVE FEMINIST.

Only… it didn’t go down that way. This chick just wanted to show off her “feminist hero” moves on Facebook.

Maggor told the Cornell Sun: ‘I do not tell my students what to wear, nor do I define for them what constitutes appropriate dress.

‘I ask them to reflect for themselves and make their own decisions.’

And basically, all of her classmates have agreed that Letitia is a virtue-signaling LIIIIAAAAAR.

Following the viral reaction to Chai’s Facebook post, 11 of the 14 students in the class issued a joint statement saying her comments didn’t accurately reflect what happened in the room.

The students said that while Maggor’s comment had an ‘error in phrasing’ the main point was to note ‘the importance of professionalism in certain public speaking situations’.

They said the professor apologized repeatedly for her initial word choice and agreed that the ‘notion of ‘short shorts’ on women carry a lot of cultural and political baggage’.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH A PROFESSOR ENCOURAGING HER STUDENTS TO LOOK AND ACT PROFESSIONALLY.

The only people not to sign the joint letter was Chai, the international student and another student who was absent on that day.

So long story short, this professor encouraged her student to dress professionally, and the student reacted by taking all of her clothing off and making up some bullsh*t story about how OPPRESSIVE her professor is.

Wow. So empowered. So brave.

I’m sure she’ll go on to do greeeat things.
