Wow, talk about hilariously entitled first world problems. The Writers Guild of America has been on strike for a little while now, refusing to write any new content for Hollywood producers, which I don’t think is any great loss to our society. According to Vulture, the Writers Guild of America East had planned to picket in New York City but cancelled their plans to picket on Wednesday, June 7th for the absolutely most hilarious reason ever–a forecast of poor air quality.

Out of an abundance of caution in light of the forecasted air quality alerts for the NYC metro area, we will be CANCELLING all pickets scheduled for Wednesday, June 7.

Y’all, these people are really out here complaining about the poor working conditions of their completely meaningless entertainment writing jobs, but had to pause that complaining because the air isn’t clear enough for them to complain in. That is just hilarious. I’m assuming it has to do with the wildfires in Canada. But really, if a homemade cloth mask is good enough to stop the minuscule Covid virus, it should be good enough to protect protesters from poor air quality in a picket line, right? Or was all that mask efficacy talk just bogus propaganda…
If they had a good publicist, they’d just pivot from their workers conditions protest to an accidental climate protest by putting out a statement about how horrifying it is that climate change is destroying the earth to such an extent that they can’t even safely protest in the streets of NYC. But then they might get questions about how safe the streets of NYC really are, considering the astronomically high rates of violent crime there, so perhaps they decided to steer clear of that topic.
