NPR is reporting that “Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says her cancer has returned and that chemotherapy is yielding positive results. In a statement, she said that her most recent scan July 7 ‘indicated significant reduction of the liver lesions and no new disease.'”

Justice Ginsburg said in her statement that she began chemotherapy treatment on May 19th to deal with a recurrence of cancer when a biopsy showed lesions on her liver. Ginsburg says that she will not be recusing herself from her position as a judge in the highest court in our country.
Ginsburg says, “I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam. I remain fully able to do that.”
The Justice’s statement claims that although she has been receiving chemotherapy treatments “bi-weekly,” she has kept up with all of her duties for the Court, including all of her opinion writing.
She received a lot of criticism on both sides of the aisle for staying in her position as a Supreme Court Justice after this many rounds of cancers. Democrats feel that she should have retired before Obama left office to pave a way to put a younger liberal judge in that seat. Republicans voiced concern over her many cancer battles. Republicans worry that the treatments will weaken the Justice making it easier for her to be manipulated.
I disagree with her politically on almost every single subject. I don’t want her to die from liver cancer. I find it inspiring that, despite every single obstacle, she continues. Not many people would continue to be a Supreme Court Justice after suffering three different bouts of cancer.
On the other hand…
We get it, you are never going to die, but its time to retire.
