Wow. George Stephanopoulos did some journalism-ing during an interview with Joe Biden Friday morning on Good Morning America.
According to The Daily Caller,
Stephanopoulos first pointed to Biden’s own prior comments during the 1998 impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, when he said a “partisan” impeachment was “wrong.”
“If a partisan impeachment was wrong in 1974, wrong in 1998, why isn’t it wrong now?” Stephanopoulos asked.
“Because it’s not a partisan impeachment,” Biden answered. “He violated the Constitution. Period.”
Stephanopoulos pointed out that only Democrats and former Republican-turned-Independent Michigan Congressman Justin Amash voted to impeach Trump in the House.
“Well, that doesn’t mean that the facts — the underlying facts, George, whether the Constitution has been violated. That that’s the issue,” the Democratic primary frontrunner responded. “Even if it’s a party line vote, it just goes — reflects on those who know, in fact, in their heart and their head that, in fact, it’s a violation of the Constitution to do what he did and, in fact, vote no.”
“That party line vote, but that doesn’t make it right, and a party line vote based upon something that doesn’t relate to a constitutional violation is a different thing.”
It was nice to see Stephanopoulos pull out some old tape exposing Joe’s changing position. Ultimately, he didn’t press Biden on his clear hypocrisy, saying “Let’s talk about Iowa”. But at least he presented the information so the viewers could draw their own conclusions.
Joe Biden from 1998 very clearly said impeachment is wrong if it’s purely partisan. That is a pretty clear position. Then he said the Trump impeachment was not partisan. It was the very definition of partisan! Joe is just denying undeniable facts. Because, ya know, they’re inconvenient.
The only thing that is different is that this is Donald J. Trump. That is what is different. The fact is the House impeachment vote was bipartisan only in the sense that both Democrats and Republicans opposed the impeachment. Zero Republicans supported impeachment. Representative Collin Peterson (D-MN) and Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) voted No. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) courageously voted present.
It’s been sad to see Joe this primary season. He used to be a somewhat reasonable Democrat. But he has shifted so many old positions to fit today’s Democratic party. He is clearly not a man of integrity or principles. He changes with the wind, in whichever way serves his own political aspirations best.
