February 25, 2026If you’re like me you spent Sunday morning watching the US men’s hockey team beat Canada. I did skip church to watch it. Don’t tell my pastor. Also, if you’re like me you think Canada being “bad at hockey” is hilarious. A Canadian team hasn’t won the Stanley Cup since the 90s and they just lost the gold medal to the US in the Olympics. Is Canada really bad at hockey? No. But it’s funny to say they are. My Canadian friend especially loves when I bring it up (read: he does not).
With that gold medal win has come so much celebrating, patriotism, and joy. If you thought you loved them after that initial win, you didn’t love them enough. If you thought you loved them when Jack Hughes gave the cutest post game interview immediately following his overtime win, you didn’t love them enough. If you thought you loved them celebrating in the locker room, you didn’t love them enough. Still, you don’t love them enough. There is not enough love for this team and how patriotic, good humans they are.
They have been celebrating for the last two days, and who can blame them? This is the first time in 46 years the USA has won gold in hockey. Not only that, they didn’t beat just any time, they beat Canada. Amazing. They deserve all the celebration.
Trump invited them to the State of the Union on Tuesday night, and these men could not be more excited about it.
They just arrived in DC a few moments ago for the SOTU later tonight.
The game was absolutely amazing. I love the energy. I love the patriotism. This has been so incredible to watch over the last few days. God bless these men, God bless hockey, and God bless the USA.
