So this past Thursday, when we were talking about one of our sponsors – the fine folks at joindeleteme.com/chicks – and when I was on a total rampage about all of those people-finding websites that have tons of personal information about everyone available to anyone – I included classmates.com as an example of one of those websites.
Turns out, that was completely false information, and I feel terrible about it. I mean, yes, there are a ton of those people-finder sites out there who do exactly the stuff I was complaining about, but classmates.com isn’t one of them. They don’t sell people’s addresses or emails or phone numbers and using their site doesn’t put you at risk of harassment or identity theft or doxxing or any of those things. They actually do a good job at protecting their members’ private info, and it’s simply a social networking platform where 90 million+ people voluntarily connect with folks from their high schools. It’s safe and secure, unlike so many other people-finding platforms.
It’s always wild to discover who listens to our show, and I found out about my screw-up thanks to an email from a representative of classmates.com, who promptly set me straight. I’m glad he did! And as I told him, I genuinely feel awful about making this mistake and I have ALL THE REGERTS about it.
Wanted you all to know as soon as I did – because I don’t like making mistakes like this and I wanna make sure they get corrected. So consider yourself informed that I SUCKED AT MY JOB during that sponsor shout-out this past Thursday, and I won’t be making that mistake again!
Now then. Go check out classmates.com if you wanna get in touch with anyone from your high school class! You can even check out your old yearbooks there if you no longer have your hard copies.
