After growing tired of Washington D.C. being a crime-filled deathtrap, Trump signed an executive order on August 11 to clean up the city. According to those in the area, things have already started to shift in a positive direction.
The president has already federalized D.C.’s police department and deployed 800 National Guard troops to help with this effort. Additionally, the city is now cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), tackling illegal immigration.
“Went on a run through DC tonight. Insane amount of people out doing the same,” James Laverty posted to X on Thursday. “Cops everywhere but the vibe was different. People feel safe again. Common sense prevails.”
Journalist and commentator Katie Pavlich also noticed the swift changes in D.C.
“First time at Union Station this morning since Trump’s crime crackdown and there wasn’t a single crazy person screaming, vagrant or person doing drugs. Instead, lots of families visiting D.C.,” she wrote. “Wonderful!!!”
It’s beyond embarrassing if we can’t even keep our nation’s capital safe, and it is about time someone did something about it. We have leaders from around the world visiting D.C., and it should, at the bare minimum, be safe. Not to mention tourists and civilians should be able to go for runs and enjoy the monuments without worrying about being jumped. “Common sense prevails” no duh.
