The US Navy is on a roll…and when I say on a roll, I mean jets rolling off of aircraft carriers and into the ocean.
*Cries in lost tax dollars*
Another F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier has been lost in the Red Sea, the second jet lost from the carrier in just over a week, five people familiar with the matter told CNN.
It is not entirely clear what happened yet, as the investigation is ongoing, but two of the people said there was some kind of arrestment failure as the jet was trying to land on the carrier and the pilot and weapons systems officer had to eject. They were recovered by a rescue helicopter and are both alive, but they suffered minor injuries, one of the people said.
The jet crashed into the sea and has not been recovered, two of the people familiar with the incident said.
The fish in this area are probably majorly confused right now.
But seriously, I’m so glad the crew on both jets are okay. That is priority one.
While we don’t entirely know why the second jet was lost, the first jet apparently rolled off the back of the aircraft carrier due to the Truman making “ … a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard.” So that’s unfortunate.
These jets are worth roughly $60 mil each, so I’m sure there were some stern words exchanged. I know I wanted to gag when I scratched my car after I bought it—I can’t even imagine having to explain a lost $60 million dollar jet to my boss.
Bad week at work, amirite?
