Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, revealed his recent battle with basal cell carcinoma, the least dangerous form of skin cancer, which he successfully beat.
In a candid and humorous manner, Portnoy discussed his diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, showcasing his signature humor even in the face of a serious health issue.
“I did have cancer. I beat it. It wasn’t the serious kind, thank God,” Portnoy said.
“Really?” Portnoy was asked.
“Yeah, really,” he said.
“I’ve got a scar all the way down my neck,” Portnoy said.
Despite the physical impact and seriousness of cancer, Portnoy maintained his casual demeanor and humor throughout the conversation, downplaying the condition’s severity.
“I’ve had a heart attack, cancer, and stung by bees, beat it all,” he joked.
“I don’t want to be like, ‘Oh, I have cancer, feel bad for me.’ It was only basal cell carcinoma, not serious. But I really wanted sympathy,” Portnoy quipped. “God forbid the Celtics lost last night, I was just gonna be like, ‘I have cancer.’ God, I don’t want to talk about it, but they won.”
