Comedian Bill Burr performed a provocative set in liberal Berkeley that captivated the crowd through his unfiltered style.
He openly tackled controversial topics like verbally abusing his wife, the war in Gaza, transgender rights, and child molestation.
“I [expletive] hate liberals,” Burr said, noting he especially hates white liberals. He joked about the trend of white liberals putting up “Black Lives Matter” signs without actually taking part in real action. “That’s like if I told you my great grandmother in Germany had a ‘Knock it off, Nazis’ sign.”
“If you run into a white person who says they’re an empath, run the other way,” he said.
Burr stated he would not censor himself to avoid offense.
The Berkeley audience was reported to have laughed heavily at a joke regarding Joe Biden’s seeming dementia.
“Jesus, you guys are so supportive,” Burr said.
While gently teasing the audience, he connected by critiquing “tech bros”, automation replacing jobs, and a Lakers fan in the crowd.
“I hate the term ‘tech bro.’ They aren’t bros. They’re nerds, and they are way more dangerous,” he joked. Only a “socially inept nerd would want to replace the majority of the country’s workforce with AI.”
Born in Massachusetts, Burr’s career took off in the 2000s with appearances on shows like Chappelle’s Show.
Known for addressing controversial topics with humor similarly to comedians such as Carlin and Pryor, Burr wrapped up his edgy Berkeley performance to warmth and gratitude from the amused crowd, leaving the door open to return.
