Do you guys remember a little while back when I did a write up on St. Mary’s College, and their asinine decision to admit dudes who think they’re chicks to their all-female school? Yeah… good times.
Well… it seems they’ve come to their sense. Either that, or they’ve been woken up by the fact that they might lose some money. Either way… let’s consider it a win for real women.
From The College Fix:
A Catholic women’s college in Indiana will drop its plan to admit men “who identify as women,” following significant backlash.
Saint Mary’s College changed its admissions policy for the 2024-25 semester to include students “whose sex is female or who consistently live and identify as women,” but then faced criticism from students, alumni, and the local bishop.
President Katie Conboy announced yesterday the college would reverse its decision.
“This has weighed heavily on our minds and in our hearts,” she wrote in the email, obtained by The Daily Signal. “There have been many voices responding to us from many places and perspectives. We have listened closely, and we have heard each of you.”
The decision came after students met with Conboy. Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend also met with President Conboy last week.
The bishop previously criticized the school’s decision, made without his consultation.
You would think it wouldn’t have occurred to an all-female, Catholic institution to play with identity politics in the first place, but the 21st century has turned out to be a really weird place, hasn’t it?
We’ve got some wins and losses in the last couple of weeks for women’s spaces and women’s sports. St. Mary’s reversal is an obvious win, but then you have Ohio’s governor voting against barring men from women’s sports a few days ago. Additionally, we saw a biological male become the recipient of a women’s D1 sports scholarship earlier this month. We’re still battling out here folks, and we need more fighters.
I applaud the students who stood up for themselves in the face of this. If you believe in something, devote yourself to it. Stand up for it. Even if you don’t succeed, don’t give your adversaries the satisfaction of winning without a fight.
