I think one of the greatest things about the USA is the indefatigability of the American spirit. Wherever you find a patriot, you will find a tireless drive to carry on, move forward, and have a great-ass time.
Case in point: a homeless encampment in downtown Denver, where a popup speakeasy seemed to appear out of thin air.
The series of tents features shelves of liquor, comfortable furniture, and evidently tents and couches for. . . a different type of entertainment for pay. (Prostitution. They’re for prostitution.)
This appears to be the main complaint about the homeless camp’s speakeasy– that, and there’s a homeless camp; they’re not exactly known for being clean, family-friendly neighborhood features. But the encampment’s residents are reportedly “living it up,” and I for one am happy for them.
Look. I understand that an open bar isn’t going to help anyone’s substance abuse issues, which are inextricably tied to homelessness at large. I have a lot of empathy for the troubles with which they are afflicted– but I also am realistic about the reality of helping people with such afflictions.
The fact is, if these vagrants want to get sloshed, they’re gonna get sloshed. Why not make a thing of it? I doubt they’re the kind of patrons to be welcomed into legitimized establishments to imbibe; who can blame them for building their own facsimile?
I, for one, applaud the innovation.

Ironic, isn’t it, that people are more upset about the pop-up bar at the homeless camp than they are about… the HOMELESS CAMP.
I think this might have been a group of Marines doing reconnaissance of a homeless camp. /sarc.
“Marines are trained to improvise, adapt, and overcome all obstacles in all situations.”
