Not like that wasn’t written on the walls already, but I digress.
In the wake of the awful Uvalde school shooting that resulted in 19 children and two teachers dead back in 2022, a sweeping mandate has been passed by Texas lawmakers to ensure that an armed security officer is posted at every school to optimize safety measures.
Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed Texas House Bill 3 into law in June and it went into effect on September 1st, 2023.
The bill requires that an armed security guard will be posted at each school district campus. The bill also mandates a multi-hazard emergency operations plan, annual intruder detection audits, semiannual meetings between the county Sheriff’s Office and at least 10 other collaborating agencies, mental health training for employees who regularly engage with students, and several more.
It has been estimated by the Texas Association of School Boards that one armed officer at one campus would cost roughly $80,000, whereas the state is providing each campus with a $15,000 grant.
Let’s not forget that the mandate allows for campuses to utilize a school district employee as the armed security guard. He or she would just need to carry a handgun on school premises and complete school safety trainings.
If you have a problem with this mandate, just remember that even your local Wal-Mart has armed security guards.

Good start. Now kill a few intruders and it will all come to a screeching halt just like hijacking airlines stopped when hijackers did not survive an attempt.
Of the few times I’ve been to my local Walmart (which I try to avoid doing, because it’s Walmart), I’ve never seen armed security. Just those annoying people that forcibly greet you as if the corporate behemoth actually gives a crap about us little people.
