Good God, the whole building will be full of decrepit dinosaurs.
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif), the former House Speaker, announced this past Friday that she will be running for re-election in 2024, seeking a 20th term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The whole White House is turning into nothing but a glorified nursing home. Just to provide a frame of reference, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is 81, Senator Dianne Feinstein is 90, and good ol’ President Biden is 80.
The platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stated that Pelosi, now 83-years-old, announced her candidacy to represent San Francisco in California’s 11th Congressional District.
Fox news reported this quote:
“Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL,” Pelosi said. “That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote.”
Pelosi became the first female speaker in 2007 after having been first elected into Congress in the year 1987. Needless to say, she’s seen some $hit.
While tenure and loyalty are commendable, there is value in having age limits and term limits.
I am by no means an ageist, but these lengthy terms are not aligning with what the Founders intended. After all, the Founders envisioned a country of decentralized power, where the time served in office was not meant for a lifetime, ensuring there is a system of co-responsibility between institutions of governance at the central, regional and local levels according to the principle of subsidiarity. Instead, we’re swiftly seeing this overly-privileged nursing home ruling the country as a centralized ruling class.
Just as much as I don’t want someone who is younger than 45 making impactful political decisions that affect American livelihood with such little life experience themselves, the same goes for 80+ year olds on the other end of the spectrum.
I’d suggest to have these folks take standardized tests every year after turning 75, but the cheating runs deep.
