Someone check on Emily Ratajkowski—I think she injured herself trying to string together thoughts last week.
In a Tik Tok video, Ratajkowski waxed philosophical while naked in a bedsheet—because, why not. Her topic of choice? How cool it is to be divorced young.
Yes, you heard that correctly.
“So, it seems that a lot of ladies are getting divorced before they turn 30. And as someone who got married at 26, has been separated for a little over a year, 32, I have to tell you—I don’t think there’s anything better. If being in your 20s is the trenches, there is nothing better than being in your 30s, still being hot, maybe having a little bit of your own money, figuring out what you want to do with your life, everything. And, having tried that married fantasy and realizing that it’s maybe not all it’s cracked up to be, and then you got your whole life still ahead of you. Umm, so, for all those people who are stressed or feeling stressed about that, about being divorced, like it’s, it’s good. Congratulations, congratulations.”
OMG, YAS. CONGRATULATIONS. SO GOOD. Let’s all clap like seals for the divorced lady who doesn’t realize someday she won’t be hot and being alone sucks.
Ratajkowski then captioned the video, “personally i find it chic to be divorced by the age of 30.”
Um, yeah, I’m sure her two-year-old son finds having a broken family TRÈS CHIC.
Don’t get me wrong, I know there are times where marriages have to end (e.g. abuse).
But that is not most cases.
I’m only 31 and have already noticed people I went to college with 10 years ago going through divorces. This should not be the norm, but it is. 40-50% of marriages end in divorce in the U.S.
Divorce isn’t glamourous or chic. It’s ugly. It’s stressful. It breaks up families. We shouldn’t be applauding that as a society.
But, yeah, congrats on your divorce, Emily.
