Apparently it doesn’t matter that there’s an international treaty prohibiting cluster bombs (not signed by the US or Ukraine) for their dangerous unpredictability or that they are banned in 120 countries due to high “dud” rates and being “inhumane and indiscriminate.”
NEW — The Biden Admin is Sending 10,000 Cluster Bombs, Which Are Banned in Most of the World, to Ukraine

On top of all that, Congress passed a law saying that the US cannot transfer or deploy cluster munitions with a dud rate higher than 1%, but according to The Hill, “The president can sign a waiver to bypass that restriction.” How convenient that they have a president who obediently does what he’s told without thought or understanding. Because why exhaust every avenue for peace when you could deploy cluster bombs that almost everyone in the world agrees are a bad idea and very irresponsible to use, especially when it’s the American taxpayers who will fund it for power-hungry warmongers?
For those who don’t know, a cluster munition is basically a large tube filled with little bombs. “Bomblets,” they call them. Cute, right? The large tube full of bomblets is deployed, like being dropped from a plane, and it opens as it drops to earth. When it opens, it disperses a bunch of fist-sized bombs that then carpet the target area. And there’s a very good reason why most of the world has banned their use.
A cluster bomb is a large capsule that contains many tiny bomblets that are spread out over a very large area, killing indiscriminately.

123 countries have signed a convention banning cluster munitions.
94% of cluster bomb casualties are civilians. 40% are children.
Curiously, Biden’s own administration previously said that using cluster bombs in the Ukraine/Russia conflict “would potentially be a war crime.” And it’s true. If civilians are hit, it’s a war crime. That apparently doesn’t matter anymore. Maybe it never did. The Bidens have never met a line they wouldn’t either cross or snort.

Um, question! Has anyone here ever complained about Russia using cluster munitions in the war? Because Human Rights Watch has documented multiple Russian uses of cluster bombs and the International Criminal Court has opened an investigation against Russia about potential war crimes. I ask because if people are going to complain about Ukraine potentially using cluster bombs while being silent about actual Russian uses, that seems REALLY disingenuous.
So we are going to send old, outdated cluster bombs with a high failure rate to Ukraine that we actually consider illegal and a war crime to use? Good lord how far the US has fallen.
