Fox Teases Legal Action Against Tucker Carlson Claiming Breach Of Contract With New Show

Yesterday, Tucker dropped the first episode of his new show, Tucker on Twitter. The ten minute episode had a million views in less than 30 minutes of being posted. Since that time, it has garnered almost 90 million views (as of the publication of this article). Hilariously, it wasn’t even a particularly sensational or spectacular episode. It was literally just a normal Tucker Carlson episode. Good stuff for sure, but not a total bombshell exposé or anything.

Compare that to Fox News’ recent ratings. According to Deadline, Fox viewership suffered after Tucker was fired, with May posting an abysmal 1.42 million average viewers during primetime (8-11pm), which is a 37% drop from May of 2022. What this means is that with a 10 minute clip posted on Twitter, Tucker is getting almost as many viewers as Fox News’ entire primetime cable news lineup. Fox literally cannot compete. But they are a massive for-profit corporation, so they have to do something to stay relevant, otherwise they go under like CNN. So now they’re teasing potential legal action against Tucker saying that he “violated his contract with the network when he launched his own Twitter show,” according to a report by Axios.

Tucker’s lawyer told Axios,

“Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds. Now they want to take Tucker Carlson’s right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events.”

Now, I really have no knowledge of the specifics in this situation, so all I can do is speculate. But from where I’m sitting, it seems like Fox is obligated to try a last-ditch legal effort to destroy Tucker because they literally cannot afford to compete with him. Meanwhile, I feel rather confident that Tucker would have dotted all his I’s and crossed all his T’s before launching a new show over which he could be sued into oblivion if he gave Fox any reason to do so. He’s certainly got plenty of people in his corner who would have helped him make sure that every single thing was in order before launching this new show. And he took his time launching it, which makes me believe that’s exactly what he was doing.

Of course Fox has to threaten to sue. They have to at least make a show of putting up a fight. They can’t just fire him and be the reason he becomes the poster boy of the new age of uncensored independent and citizen journalism that renders cable news networks like Fox completely irrelevant.
