Hell hath no fury like an entitled media celebrity scorned. I’m not sure why Don Lemon acted like he was surprised he got fired, but this is a surprise to absolutely no one. We all saw this coming from a mile away. In fact, most of us couldn’t believe he managed to stay employed there for as long as he did. Regardless, he made sure the world knew exactly how he felt, releasing a statement that he was “stunned” and claiming that “at no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network.” Honey, your abysmal ratings should have been your first indication. They can’t keep paying you to do a terrible job.
But he wasn’t just mad about being fired with no formal warning. In his statement, he claimed that he was “informed this morning by my agent” about his termination. He then complained that “after 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.” Whew! How dare they not have the dignity to discuss this with him personally!
Unless they did and he pitched a hissy fit instead… That’s pretty much what CNN is saying. When Don Lemon broke the news on Twitter, CNN also put out a statement that “CNN and Don have parted ways,” thanking him for his contributions and wishing him luck. An hour later, they put out another statement blasting Lemon for what they called an “inaccurate” statement regarding the events surrounding his termination. They instead claim that “he was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.” Yikes. Like I said, hell hath no fury…
