Hahaha. We’re in danger.
Vladimir Putin gave a rollicking speech today in which he pretty much said, “We got nukes and we ain’t afraid to use ’em.”
Most startlingly, he announced that Russia would no longer be adhering to the New START treaty, an Obama-era agreement that limited both the US and Russia to 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear warheads each. You know, the nice kind of deal that gives you warm fuzzies– and not the radiation kind? Yeah, that’s over.
Putin also used his State of the Nation address to declare unequivocally that Russia will not be defeated in its war against Ukraine, stating, “The elites of the West do not hide their purpose. But they also cannot fail to realize that it is impossible to defeat Russia on the battlefield.”
Oh, and also they’re apparently ready to resume nuclear testing if the US does first: “If the United States conducts tests, then we will. No one should have dangerous illusions that global strategic parity can be destroyed.”
Putin justified his statements by claiming that the US has been working to turn what he considers “a local conflict” into a global one. Now I don’t want to say that this pontificating dildo has a point, because he’s, well, a megalomaniacal Siberian dildo, buuuuut. . . maybe sending billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine sent a certain message to Russia. One that starts with “F” and ends in “U.”
I’M OBVIOUSLY NOT SAYING THAT PUTIN IS JUSTIFIED IN THROWING THE N WORD AROUND LIKE IT’S CANDY, just that MAYBE sending $25 BILLION in aid to Zelensky wasn’t exactly us staying in our lane.
And maybe, if you haven’t already started, now’s the time to get to work on that bomb shelter.

Is us sending aid to Ukraine ‘staying in our lane’? Heck no. But remember, the last time everyone stayed in their lane, terms like ‘Lebensraum’ and ‘Sudentenland’ were thrown around a lot (thanks a lot Neville Chamberlain, you feckless coward). A bit of fighting took place and then six million plus Jews and other minorities somehow ended up dead. We cannot afford to stay in our lane with regard to Ukraine.
Us not “staying in our lane” in 2014 can easily be argued as starting this whole thing (the current one, not the centuries old one). Everybody all around (except the civilians) are the “bad guys” in this one.
