February 10, 2023The fact that John Fetterman insisted on continuing his campaign after having a stroke is one of the most irresponsible, selfish acts of the past year. And the fact that people willingly voted for someone this dreadfully unfit for office is just reprehensible on every imaginable level.
If you hadn’t heard, Fetterman went to the hospital a couple days ago due to lightheadedness. He remains hospitalized, and according to this, his condition even BEFORE being hospitalized is worse than I had realized.
On top of a major post-stroke speech issue that we’ve all been acutely aware of, Fetterman has ALSO apparently described having a severe hearing disability such that when people talk to him, what he hears sounds much like the teacher from the Peanuts cartoons.
So you tell me, should people have elected someone who hears everything like this?
Fetterman also has to carry around a closed-captioning device that gives him typed out messages essentially dictated from the people speaking around him. He is unable to comprehend what’s said to him without that device, and so he never takes reporters’ questions. How is that fair to his constituents and to the larger public?
Democrat colleagues insist this is all fine. Sen. Bob Casey said his condition isn’t a factor because “people understand disability.”

His campaign was selfish beyond description. His condition is a liability to the US Senate.
I wish him a full and speedy recovery, but I also wish he’d do the right thing and resign. Of course I understand his replacement would be another Democrat, but America deserves a FUNCTIONAL REPRESENTATIVE, not someone who is this absolutely unfit for the job.
Also, Senator Tim Scott is awesome.

Yes. It’s barely different than being deaf and I don’t think we should be discriminating against people for something like that.

How is that any different that somebody needing a sign interpreter?

As far as we know he is functional.
I really hate being made to defend this guy, but as far as we know he is mentally capable, he just has to use non-standard means to get his thoughts out. That isn’t a disqualification for office.

You keep saying he is functional but all evidence points to the exact opposite conclusion. Certain parts of his brain related to general processing might still be working normally but all the parts associated with verbal communications have clearly been compromised as he even says things that are not quite right. Given that a lot of people also tend to read aloud internally I’d at least question whether or not his reading comprehension is affected.
To use a computer analogy his internal components might be working but all his I/O devices and ports are malfunctioning so we can’t really tell so it’s best to assume the device isn’t working.
However, I will agree that’s it’s not a valid point for disqualification from office as I’m pretty sure half of congress is walking around without similar damage but still not capable of actual thought.

No. He appears to be thinking well, he just has trouble hearing and speaking.

Yep. That is what I have been saying. All the articles have been saying he is nearly a drooling idiot, when the evidence is he is just a regular Progressive idiot.

Again, yep. But it looks like he has non-verbal workarounds for that, for example “carry around a closed-captioning device”.
The fact that he refuses to take questions is extremely concerning. We have witnessed that he is not only grappling with hearing comprehension, but he is also cognitively compromised.
How is he going to be able to manage a senate confirmation, for example, with rapid-fire back and forth? Pennsylvania deserves better.
Frankly, I blame his avaricious wife.
So when he strokes out, which according to several medical folks who chimed in about the type of stroke he had is a virtual guarantee, does his wife get the seat? Or does she just think she does?
People are suspicious that Fetterman’s wife is banking on him becoming incapacitated so that she could can assume his Senate seat like Mary Bono and Jean Carnahan did after the deaths of their husbands while they were in office.
Career politicians like Fetterman have an overwhelming desire to stay in office and wield power. Plus, just like Joe Biden, Fetterman has a wife that pushes him into elections despite severe health issues.
Senator Scott’s prayer for Senator Fetterman was a class act. It seems to me that the latter was elected Senator because of the sympathy votes for his stroke. That, and voters being hell-bent on keeping Republicans out.
