Did y’all forget for a hot second that there are *white* grovellers out there making money off people by telling them they suck for a shared, uncontrollable physical characteristic?
I didn’t, but in case you had returned to your blissful state of unawareness, here’s this load of B.S….
From The College Fix:
White people need to acknowledge their faults and fix their “whiteness,” according to an Oregon sociologist.
Professor Emily Drew will host a “conversation” in February “for white people to reflect together on what it means to ‘do our work’ as white people,” according to an announcement.
The Willamette University professor’s presentation at a local library is titled “Working on Our Whiteness.”
Participants will be asked to consider the following questions:
How can we who are white show up as more effective and less damaging participants in struggles to interrupt racism in our community? How can white people engage in efforts to dismantle racism in ways that do not reproduce or place unfair burdens upon people of color to be our teachers?
The “work” that white people must focus on “includes taking responsibility for one another, educating ourselves, and coming to view other white people as our partners—not competition—in developing antiracist identity.”
Drew also teaches ethnic studies at Willamette. “She gives presentations at universities and community-based organizations on the subjects of white privilege, gentrification, fair housing, reparations and affirmative action,” according to her bio. “In all of these capacities, she is an organizer and strategic planner, helping institutions develop and implement long term commitments to anti-racist, multicultural diversity.”
I guess her place of employment was at least smart enough to choose not to host this… or is that wishful thinking?
I can’t decide if I find the idea of white people pushing this agenda funny or horrifying…
Funny in the sense that they’re being little capitalists, or horrifying because they might actually believe the hot trash they’re spewing…
Do they believe it? I honestly can’t even tell if they’ve just figured out there’s money to be made here, or if they’ve actually convinced themselves that they’re the Jim Jones of Whiteguiltville.
Drink the Kool-Aid dammit…
Also… is anyone going to point out that the white woman is a professor of ethnic studies? Seems to me that she’s standing in the way of a qualified professor of minority status.
This, of course, is me pulling from the progressive bag of bullsh*t. I don’t give a rip if she teaches ethnic studies. If she’s knowledgeable, and worthy of the job, then let her have it. The school she teaches at is more than 60% white anyway…
You’d think that wouldn’t be acceptable in today’s social climate, but… whatever.
You know what would be a better utilization of resources? A presentation on the difference between too, to, and two. THEY’RE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
Also: there, they’re, and their.
The amount of people I deal with every day that can’t figure this out after I explain it to them is horrifying.
To sum up: less self-hate summits, more grammar gatherings.

Either way, I’d go with it’s horrible. If they actually believe it, well obviously that’s horrible. But if they know they’re peddling lies that are going to create guilt and self-hatred in those they teach, well I’d call that pretty horrible too.
And I am totally behind you with the grammar gatherings. I am daily reminded of how lax that kind of teaching is in schools today (though not in MY classroom, mind you!).
Our society is filled with too many solutions not enough problems. We’ve been increasing the number of “activists” (communists/socialists) but the actual problems of society are nowhere near as bad as they believe so they have to ever increasingly try to find the problem in the gaps of society hence we get “whiteness” as a nebulous label to try to demonize a group of people for simply existing.
Funny, being married for 31 years I get reminded of my faults and explained daily in detail what I can do to correct said faults. Working on my whiteness has not yet come up. Probably just an oversight on Sunshine’s behalf, but I am thinking I am good in that area.
Can you imagine going somewhere (a college class) where they explain to your whole life is horrible and you are too unaware to notice? Then they make you pay for the class and grade you on your attentiveness.
Personally, I can stay at home and get that same type of treatment for free from people I like.
