Yaaaaaaay electric everything! Hope all those elitists in Davos are enjoying their filet mignon (that’s NOT vegan, in case you were unaware) after they cruised into town on their private jets and helicopters, planning world domination through electric enslavement of the huddled masses.
I can’t wait to get my own electric Humvee. They’re only around $110,000 – what a BARGAIN, amirite? Considering I drive a 2015 car and haven’t bought a new car since I was in my 20s, please note that this entire paragraph is dripping in sarcasm.
5 days to charge the new 250kW battery #Hummer from a home wall socket.

That’s efficient and great for the environment. #EV 🪫 #ElectricVehicles 🤡 #FFS pic.twitter.com/Nsh8PYuELP
Seriously – WHO IS BUYING THESE THINGS besides all of those elitists in Davos? This entire movement is riddled with smug ridiculousness.
It reminds me of this:

For those who think TLDR, those charge times in the article are on a 110/120 outlet.
Confession time. We have a Chevy Bolt. Love it. On a 220 (aka “Level 2” charger, think “dryer hookup”) it will take about 8 hours to charge us up from empty (so, overnight). On a 110/120 outlet – yeah about 3 days. We just plug it in overnight at our new house (haven’t installed a Level 2 charger here yet) it would take 3 days from completely empty…but who ever drives until empty? Don’t count my kid – he’s run out of gas in his Jeep and VW so many times it ain’t funny.
And our electric bill only went up about $10 month charging fully once a week.
Didn’t buy it for the environment. Bought it because we drive, maybe, 100 miles a week (I work from home, wife works about 1.5 miles from home). Figured the gas cost savings made up for the costs incurred by my lifted 2007 Tahoe (11MPG) and my beach runner Wrangler (16MPG). LOL
Driving from our home in NC to DC (company Christmas Party) we stopped twice. Could’ve gotten away with once, but it was our first long trip in it. It added 90 minutes to our drive. We stopped at DC Fast Chargers for about 45 minutes each time. Got about 110 miles added to the battery at each stop. I’m not really anal about tracking these things so I could be off a bit on time/added miles. The wife hates stopping so it really got on her nerves…but my old man bladder needs a stop every two hours or so, so I was happy. 🙂
Range is severely impacted by temperatures. In the winter, running the heat constantly we get about 220 miles of range. In summer, running AC we get about 280. I know what the “stated miles” are for the car, but honestly if we’re not driving long trips or over 65MPH we’re getting close to 300 miles in the summer. It’s the winters that really kill the miles estimates. The batteries are just not super efficient when it’s cold.
20K miles so far with it. Not a single hiccup.
I test drove the BMW one back when I did local radio full-time. I think it’s the i3? Anywho…it was cute. Really speedy. I thought it was neat that it didn’t make a lot of noise and had that “giddy up.” That was back when I lived in Indy. I didn’t do as much driving back then. The thing is, I live in Texas now. Everything’s bigger here, including commute times. We drive a LOT here to get anywhere. There is no way on God’s green earth that I could have an electric car and not get stranded on a typical day. I’m in my car about 3 hours a day here just to get my kid to and from the country to the “city” for activities – average. Having to find plug-in places in rural Texas? OMG the notion of that is plain hilarious. And on our ranch? It just wouldn’t work.
Also, I’m not spending more than $35K on a car. Car prices these days are just obscene to me. A vehicle gets me from point A to B, and I just find $100K cars to be insulting to me as a consumer. If I HAD that much money to spend on a car, I honestly don’t think I could do it based on principle alone. It’s an aluminum/steel box with a wheel and some tires, for crying out loud. I am somewhat attached to my big-ass, REALLY OLD Tahoe. Sure, it’s a gas-guzzling giant, but it fits about 6 pre-teen girls, but it’s reliable and safe (and I don’t care if the cattle bang up against it), which is precisely what this swim mom needs. 🙂
To each his/her own. I’m cool if people want to buy these cars. Some of them are super cool, and I totally get it. I see Teslas everywhere around where I live (I’m an hour from Austin, go figure). But when the government starts TELLING me to buy one? Get ready for a revolution – I’ll be in the front of the line.
🙂
Yeah that was the i3. They have a couple more now I think – I’m just not into BMWs. Overengineered and far too expensive to repair – even if they are fast and beautiful.
I hear you though about the costs (ridiculous), but then all new (useful) trucks here in NC cost about what I paid for my first house. With all the discounts I got the Bolt for for$21k, that’s almost $20k off sticker so I was super happy about that.
The idea that there won’t be charging stations in rural areas though is a myth. They will eventually come (even to TX). When the ICE cars were first introduced there weren’t gas stations every other block or so (in cities) or every 15 miles or so in the rural areas. I honestly couldn’t fathom being in ANY car that much every day.
And yeah, just about anything government-forced is bad juju. I don’t like it either.
Only been to TX once (DFW Airprort – don’t get me started on that nightmare). Would love to go back some time (in my much loved but not so reliable anymore Tahoe LOL) to see more of it than the view from the airport afforded me.
Have a great weekend!
>I honestly couldn’t fathom being in ANY car that much every day.
I’m in mine up to about 11 hours a day. 110,000 miles in about 2.5 years.
