Y’all – I don’t know if you’re familiar with the singer Sam Smith, but he’s an English pop star who first burst onto the American music scene with his song Stay With Me, which was one of the most horrific earworms of 2014ish.
Sam seemed like one of those shy, quiet, gay dudes who wasn’t altogether comfortable in his own skin, and seemed even less comfortable with his rising fame. That’s just my opinion – it’s not like I know the dude. But I can tell you that early Sam was much different than current Sam. Early Sam seemed nice. Understated. Normal. He was open but not obnoxious about his gayness, and used music as his outlet to release pent up emotions about breakups (even famously thanking a man who broke his heart because it earned him Grammys). His voice has been compared to that of a black female gospel vocalist – and that’s about right. Some of his songs – I will readily admit – are total bops. Like this one:
Note if you will, his understated style. His non-flamboyance. His – yes, I’m saying it – NORMALCY.
Welp, that’s all changed in the last couple years. Back in late 2017, Sam came out as “genderqueer,” changed his pronouns to they/them, and announced that, “After a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.”
Ok then. Fine. You do you, bruh.
The problem though, as we all know by now, is that when people get swept up into genderqueer activism and decide to “embrace themselves,” it means that they are obligated by some powerful unseen force to show as much of themselves to everyone as they possibly can, and to become obnoxiously flamboyantly exhaustingly exhibitionistic. SEE: literally any LBGTQIA+++++++ parade. It’s all many of these folks can do to not just have sex on the parade floats passing by. They are RELENTLESSLY hypersexual for reasons I cannot understand.
I guess we’re supposed to see this as empowering or something. (?) It’s not. It’s just attention-craving, self-important, excruciatingly insecure people embarrassing themselves. That’s all it is.
Case in point. Sam Smith has been posting Tiktoks like these as of late:
@samsmith Merry Christmas Sailors ⚓️ #xmas

@samsmith I’m Not Here To Make Friends #TRACK11 #GLORIA

You get the idea. Plenty more where those came from, unfortunately.
There are, as you’d expect in today’s borked culture, plenty of comments basically saying, “YAAASSS QUEEEEEEN” to Sam for his bravery in living his best life, blah blah blah. But there are also lots of these:

I get it. If I had been a Sam Smith fan back in the day, I’d be wishing for the old Sam Smith too.
But I have a confession to make. The only real reason I wrote this post was to have a reason to post this hilarious meme I saw on Twitter today.

So he got Covid fat and then let all the stupid insanity out on tiktok? Cry for help or cry for attention? Or just batkrap crazy?
You decide!
I had not really seen the old version of Sam Smith so I did not register how drastic the change was. 😳
