I know it can be confusing, but I want to clarify that a trans woman is a biological man who identifies as a woman. A trans woman is not, in fact, a woman, and they poses none of the reproductive organs necessary for things like having a period, having a child, lactating, etc. Those things are specific to biological women. But Alicyn Simpson, the “community navigator” for the UPMC Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital Gender and Sexual Development Program, is broaching the subject of live reproductive organ donation for trans people. They’re literally floating the idea of taking the healthy reproductive organs out of a biological female and putting them in a biological male who wants to be a woman and whose body is fundamentally not designed to support a uterus and ovaries. ANYTHING to affirm gender identity. what’s most frightening is that this woman works in the CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, which tells you exactly where they anticipate taking this. Someday soon, they hope to be able to transplant a uterus into your teenage son after performing a full hysterectomy on someone else’s teenage daughter.

This is simply an exercise in testing how far they can go before people will make them stop. As Dr. Ian Malcolm said in Jurassic Park, “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” My guess is that trans men, or biological women who want to be men, are the ones who would likely be the live donors of their reproductive organs. They don’t want them anyway, right?
I guess the next hurdle would be connecting a donor uterus to a surgically created vagina. Are they thinking that uterus might then actually be able to gestate a baby? Because then you’ve got to figure out how to connect it into the endocrine system, right? Otherwise it’s kind of just like a big appendix that’s just hanging out in there for no good reason. Ultimately, that’s all it will ever be, because a male body is fundamentally not designed to support a uterus and ovaries.

Sigh. Pittsburgher here. I’ve never taken a poll, but I would guess that if you asked Pittsburghers to name their most beloved local institutions, Children’s Hospital would rank no worse than third. We love Children’s. It has saved countless young lives. It has a golden and well-earned reputation.
Children’s Hospital is a beloved institution, but I can assure you most Pittsburghers will not be loving this story.
But I thought trans was all about “gender” and not the very clear distinction between male and female reproductive systems?
Good lord this whole mess is just one fustercluck of contradictions and the people who support it don’t seem to care in the slightest.
