WOW.
Wow! This is a wild and sad part of Elon’s childhood that I hadn’t heard about before. Need to find the full @mayemusk interview. @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/8AwBu87Fty

This isn’t new information – it’s been out for years, but Elon isn’t someone I paid close attention to until the whole Twitter thing. It makes me root for his success even harder. He’s really remarkable, and what he’s been able to accomplish in spite of the turmoil of his early life is kind of amazing.
You go, Elon. YOU GO.
Here’s more.

At 9, I read our entire home library of the World Book Encyclopedia (parents bought the whole set and even the annual updates). My parents, family, and friends all thought I was weird (and admittedly, I was). Wish I’d turned into a stream of consciousness, idea generating billionaire! LOL
Note to new parents: constantly being told your ideas won’t work or are crazy really wreaks havoc on a young kid’s psyche (creates a general lack of confidence). Encourage their out of the box thinking and let them experiment (within reason and safely).
I used to keep 3-4 books going at all times until I was in my mid-40s – various topics of interest to me; history, biographies, how-to manuals, comic books, fantasy novels (LoTR, CS Lewis, etc.). Then I just ran out of energy to keep it going. I haven’t read a book now in probably 10 years. Get them going and I just lose interest quickly
Nowadays I tell my son I “used to be” smart. Today I have the attention span of a Cocker Spaniel puppy and the memory retention of a goldfish. 🙁
