American Girl Isn’t Even Safe Anymore

If you were a little girl in the mid/late 80s and on, you probably had a, or at least knew of American Girl doll.  I had the Felicity doll.  She went everywhere with me.  I loved her and the books that came along with each doll so much!  But, like most things these days, not even American Girl is safe anymore.

American Girl was founded on a love for history and a commitment to produce high quality educational products.  This is probably why I loved the American Girl dolls and books so much.  I have loved learning about history my whole life, even from a young age.  What history loving little girl wouldn’t want a doll that taught them about history through fun books and the cutest period clothing and accessories for their doll?  It was great, until it wasn’t.  Because toys can’t just be toys anymore.  Everything has to be a political statement or an attempt at indoctrinating our nation’s kids.

American Girl now has a book called A Smart Girl’s Guide: Body Image that gives young girls advice on how to change their gender.  One part of the book states, “Parts of your body may make you feel uncomfortable and you may want to change the way you look.  That’s totally OK!”  No.  It’s not.  I am so sick of the constant indoctrination of our youth. 

Allowing a child to transition, especially before puberty, is child abuse.  You are allowing a child (one more time for the people in the back, A CHILD) to be mutilated because maybe they were feeling more boyish that morning.  How does anyone see this as ok!?  And for a well-known brand that millions of little girls love and adults trust to throw this in their books is not ok either.

Parents, know what your kids are consuming.  Know what they are watching, playing, and reading.  Then fight back.  This won’t stop if we are silent.
