Remember how we didn’t hear much about the flu over the past few years? It’s as if it disappeared entirely during the Covid pandemic and everyone was dying from Covid and not the flu? As if the flu virus just got up and cowered in the face of Covid and went into hiding (or something)?
Huh.
Well, now the CDC is reporting that almost “2,900 Americans have died from influenza since October, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”
So weeeeeeeeeeeird.
“Seasonal influenza activity is elevated across the country,” an update from the week ending November 19 that was released on Monday said.
The CDC estimates “at least 6.2 million illnesses, 53,000 hospitalizations, and 2,900 deaths from flu.” The statistics include 12 children who have died this flu season.
CDC Flu even has its own Twitter account and everything (can you imagine being the person who runs THAT account? How freaking overlooked and unbelievably bored were you over the past two years?):
CDC’s latest preliminary, in-season flu burden estimates suggest flu has caused at least 6.2 million illnesses, 3 million medical visits, 53,000 hospitalizations, and 2,900 deaths so far this season. There’s still time to get a #fluvax. Full report here: https://t.co/bR1HB5pgLZ pic.twitter.com/N7fDX9tQvz

I thought it was worth sharing that Lynne here really wants the CDC to bring bask mask mandates before Christmas, just so we’re all clear:
There is still time before holiday travel for you to have TSA reinstate air, transit travel mask mandates as SCOTUS said they could. If you don't #BringBackMasks to stand up against MAGA's all you Tweet about virus infections is chazeri.

Anywho, the flu’s back, y’all. Just thought I’d let you know since it mysteriously disappeared for two + years.
SCIENCE.

More people die of seasonal flu than from any other illness. On an annual basis, flu deaths range from 30 thousand to 40 thousand EVERY YEAR. It’s so regular and so predictable nobody pays much attention to it.
The CDC issues the same flu prevention precautions every winter, starting with staying current with flu shots, avoiding people who are sick, covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like flu. There also are flu antiviral drugs that can be used to treat and prevent flu.
Yeah, wearing a diaper on your face is really standing up to them, there MAGAs. 👍
The real question is: have motorcycle accidents come back yet?
