AP Fires Reporter Who Sourced False Russia Missile Strike Story

November 23, 2022Reporters and media outlets have too long been allowed to say anything they want with impunity, regardless of truth or factual accuracy. Sometimes they issue a quiet correction, but more often they simply edit incorrect information with no acknowledgement of their mistake. But the story of the Russian missile strike killing 2 Polish citizens was such an egregious mistake that someone did actually have to suffer consequences. Mind you, there have been NUMEROUS fake stories that are equally egregious and for which reporters and news outlets should have suffered consequences, so I’m not sure why this particular fake story is special. But ‘journalist’ James LaPorta, who the Washington Post says “provided information for story that inaccurately suggested Russia launched a missile strike on Poland,” was fired by the Associated Press on Monday following a brief investigation.
An Associated Press news alert was published just hours after the deadly missile launch by Ukraine which killed 2 in a Polish border village which announced to the world that “senior U.S. intelligence official says Russian missiles crossed into NATO member Poland, killing two people.” Numerous credible news outlets repeated the false claim citing the AP’s report, and the fake story spread like wildfire. Of course, it ended up being entirely inaccurate and highly inflammatory. The kind of inflammatory falsehood that could have started World War 3 had countries rashly decided to launch a counter strike against Russia based on that inflammatory and false information.
It’s good that this ‘journalist’ was fired as a result of his egregious and potentially catastrophic false reporting. But my next questions is, what happens to the anonymous “senior U.S. intelligence official” who fed this ‘journalist’ the false information? What will happen to that person? What accountability will that person face? I can’t help but be suspicious that perhaps they fed LaPorta this false information on purpose, especially considering the subsequent official narrative that Russia is ultimately responsible for the attack regardless of whether they actually launched the missile. I can’t help but wonder if U.S. intelligence might have wanted to shape the narrative with no regard for truth or factual accuracy. Perhaps they hoped this could be their “WMD” justification for greater action against Russia, had the public bought the narrative?

I don’t know. But I really wish every single freaking person that reports false information could get fired.

Would that be Dr. Anthony Fauci? He is being allowed to retire. /sarc.
I think the question should be, “what should happen to the non-NATO country that did fire a missile into NATO ally Poland?” At the very least that country should lose all funding and aid from NATO countries.
It is possible that the “senior U.S. intelligence official” is only a figment of the reporter’s imagination.
