Turkey day is set to gobble gobble up your savings this year. A 2022 survey by the Farm Bureau shows that the average cost to feed 10 people for the holiday is up 20%.
If you have an aunt you can’t stand, now would be a good time to uninvite her to dinner next week. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
“The centerpiece on most Thanksgiving tables – the turkey – costs more than last year, at $28.96 for a 16-pound bird. That’s $1.81 per pound, up 21% from last year, due to several factors beyond general inflation,” the Farm Bureau said.
Other contributing factors according to the bureau include supply chain issues, smaller flocks of turkeys this year, high feed costs and THE FREAKING WAR IN UKRAINE.
So not only is the war bleeding the U.S. dry from doling out aid money, but it’s also ruining my Thanksgiving this year. Lovely.
“… As many of us gather with family and friends for a special meal, it’s a time for giving thanks and doing our part to help those who can’t afford a big holiday feast. State and local Farm Bureaus across the country have strong partnerships with local food banks and I’m proud of their collective efforts to help ensure no one goes hungry,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall.
Lol, “Zippy.”
But seriously, if inflation doesn’t get under control, we might all be in Zippy’s food bank line next year.
Happy Thanksgiving!
