Just days before the midterm election where DeSantis won a second term as Governor of Florida in an incredible landslide, former President Donald Trump bizarrely labeled him “Ron DeSanctimonious.” To tarnish an extremely successful conservative right before their re-election is weird and petty, in my opinion. I wasn’t impressed. Then after the incredible Red Wave in Florida, Trump again criticized DeSantis’ track record and political standing, which is again weird because the people literally just declared their support for and appreciation of DeSantis and his track record. Thus far, DeSantis has simply ignored the sometimes overt and sometimes underhanded disses from Trump. But today, he finally responded to the criticism, and he did it just right. He explained,
“One of the things I’ve learned in this job is when you’re leading, when you’re getting things done, you take incoming fire. That’s just the nature of it. I roll out of bed in the morning, I’ve got corporate media outlets that have a spasm, just the fact that I’m getting up in the morning. And it’s constantly attacking, and this is just what’s happened. I don’t think any governor got attacked more, particularly by corporate media, than me over my four year term. And yet, I think what you learn is, All that’s just noise. And really what matters is, are you leading, are you getting in front of issues, are you delivering results for people, and are you standing up for folks. And if you do that, none of that stuff matters. And that’s what we’ve done. We’ve focused on results and leadership, and at the end of the day, I would just tell people to go check out the scoreboard from last Tuesday night.”

This was a fabulous response. DeSantis has delivered for the people of Florida on a lot of major issues. He kept the state and the schools open, he protected citizens from unconstitutional and unscientific vaccine and mask mandates, he safeguarded parental rights in the face of radical woke gender ideology, and he handled the hurricane response incredibly well. He doesn’t need to be engaging in petty political fights when there are bigger issues to be addressed and he’s clearly doing what his constituents want him to be doing. The midterm election numbers prove that.

This is Trump but more classy which is what we need.
Makes me wish Trump would just get out of this rock star’s way and let him sweep the ’24 elections into the White House. A DeSantis/Lake ticket would be a dream, wouldn’t it? Too bad Trump’s ego just won’t let him stand down. It’ll be interesting to see how this all shakes out, and what damage Trump is going to wreak on conservativism this time around.
I love this guy. Millions of other people also love him. That’s why Trump is doing his best to eliminate him and Virginia governor Glen Youngkin as potential competitors in the 2024 primaries. Personally, I just wish Trump would STFU and retire to Mara Lago. He’s so yesterday.
